It’s not so much whether or not you can use the Neuralink to control things....
Can it also be used to control YOU?
Probably not. The concept of mind control has fascinated human beings for a thousand years. Neuroscience is still in its infancy. While we can pick up brain activity and provide limited interpretation of it (for things like Musk’s implant or controlling advanced prosthetics), making changes to brain activity is not something we can do with any real precision. We can flood the brain with neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin to alter mood or feelings, but that’s pretty much the extent.
Perhaps at some point in the future we’ll have the level of understanding necessary to direct a human brain to “walk 5 feet forward and pick up that coffee mug”, but that’s decades away at the earliest. Something more advanced (like the MKUltra CIA mind control program) is probably a century or more away from being possible.
My concern with any sort of brain implant is more related to things like infections, immune system rejection, malfunctions causing damage, or damage caused during implantation or removal. Those are far more realistic risks associated with it.
