Black Bear Kills Unarmed Woman in Unprovoked Attack; Bear Spray Fails, Gun Works

On 21 August, 2020, at McKie Lack, Saskatchewan, Canada, a 44-year-old mother of two was attacked and killed by a large black bear as she talked on a satellite phone with her father.

The father said he was talking to her when he heard a gurgling noise, and was no longer able to communicate with her. Nine minutes later, his son-in-law, Stephanie's husband, Curtis Blais, called him and told him of the attack. Curtis had tried bear spray, but it did not work, so he got a gun and shot and killed the bear. From cbc.ca:

After waiting two minutes, Esquirol disconnected and called back. No one answered. Seven minutes later, he got a call from his daughter's husband, Curtis Blais, who had been in the cabin's kitchen about 30 metres away.

“Curtis called advising me that a bear attacked her, that he sprayed the bear with pepper spray, and the bear got more angry.”

Esquirol said his son-in-law told him he got a gun and shot the bear twice before it went down.

“So by that time, Stephanie had no pulse. He gave her mouth to mouth, but she was injured beyond the point of recovery.”

Given Canadian gun control laws, one has to wonder how long it took him to retrieve the firearm and load it. Under Canadian law, every gun must be locked up and unloaded, unless actually in use.

The ammunition must be locked up in a separate container. There are exceptions for use during predator control and storage of a non-restricted firearm in a remote wilderness area.

An unprovoked surprise attack by a large black bear.

Bear spray did not work, but a gun did.

Idiotic liberal laws kill way more people than they save.

Weird, black bears rarely attack unless injured or cornered or with cubs

“””Bear spray did not work, but a gun did. “”””

I use bear spray. I spray it on the bullets for my .44 mag.

That way the bear spray gets there faster.

Under Canadian law, every gun must be locked up and unloaded, unless actually in use.

Reminds me when I was living in kommiefornia. This happened in Salinas, I believe.

A 16 year old girl was home alone in a farmhouse in the valley. A criminal broke in the house and the girl, who knew how to operate a firearm, desperately tried to get into her father's gun safe.

You see, the incredibly moronic simpletons in the kommiefornia legislature passed a moronic law that if there are minors in the house, all guns must be secured. A gun safe, for example.

The girl could not get a gun. She was raped and brutally murdered.

The kanuks have nothing over the elected kommiefornia fascists. Kommies are stupid. And they all follow the same rulebook. Mao. Stalin. Hitler. Newsom. Loathsome creatures, every one.

If you can't keep a loaded firearm immediately at hand, at least keep a few sharp things handy. In critter country, a boar spear would be useful.

Pitchfork works too (get a farmer-quality one and sharpen it) and is a legitimate gardening tool.

"... whereas bear scat smells like pepper, and has little bells embedded in it."

Punchline to an unfortunately apropos joke.

Prayers up for the family.

Wrong most black bear attacks on humans are predatory.

We have been lied to by the anti’s that bears attack for the reasons you mentioned.

At one time when bears where hunted hard and most everybody out and about were armed. It was some what true.

In times past when a bear was saw around the homestead it was shot. So aggressive bears were killed off.

Now days they are able to survive because of their protected status.

Yes a cold steel bore spear I have handled the one marktwain owns.

Heavy long and a lot more Un-Wheeling then a good firearm let alone a good hand gun.

But no doubt that if one could drive the blade into the chest cavity of a bear and hold on,it would kill it shortly.

Oh BS. So what about Africa? Shall lions be hunted to extinction? The only good lion is a dead lion?

That is actually true. If there we poachers eradicating lions is Africa these North American bear haters would be the first to raise hell.
