Growing up in the 50s you learned that you just didn’t disrespect police etc and you definitely looked over your shoulder before doing something ‘stupid’ because in your mind you knew a Nun was watching or a voice would say
“Smile, You’re on Candid Camera”
and Allen Funt would shove a mike in your face”. (some 65 or so years later, still on the lookout for Funt)
When we were teenagers, we did a variant of that. We carried around a portable reel-to-reel tape recorder and when someone said something funny or "stupid," we would say, "laugh! You're on Candid Tape Recorder!"
