After two and a half years of review, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Final Environmental Impact Statement was published in July. It determined that the Pebble Mine project can successfully meet strict federal regulatory and environmental standards and that the mining project would have no discernable impact on returning salmon and no affect on commercial fisheries in Bristol Bay.
The mine is not at the headwaters of Bristol Bay as is often wrongly portrayed in photographs. It's 230 miles away by river, or 100 miles by air, from Bristol Bay, and only touches three very small tributaries at the uppermost reaches, of the more than 50,000 tributaries. Nor are the tailings toxic, as sometimes claimed; rather, they are natural byproducts that will be kept in a lined facility before being returned to the earth after closure. They present no failure risk or threat to downstream habitat. Pebble is not the largest mine in Alaska, and its footprint (5.3 square miles) is a minuscule 0.013% of the entire Bristol Bay area. It is also on state land that Alaska specifically set aside for natural resource development.

lol... But Alaska pebbles are special!
I can see them from my front porch. LOL! Oh wait. That’s DG.
Under a Biden regime, Pebble Mine will be fully developed and exploited.
By and for the Chinese.
I like to think conservatives are naturally conservationists too. Not radical climate change zealots but aware that we need to manage and protect our natural resources and forests and those areas that are irreplaceable. I’ve lived in areas where miners have screwed up the area forever, capture all the profits, and then go bankrupt before supposedly making it right as promised. I lean heavily towards protecting the irreplaceable.
I saw the head of Bass Pro shop on Tucker awhile ago stating his disapproval of the gold project. I don’t know enough about the environmental impacts of this but I tend to be skeptical of these recreational companies. Only because of that jerk that’s the head of Chick full of it.
I saw that Bass guy also and tend to side with him but don’t know that much about the issue. It if impacts the salmon I think not worth it.

as do I. Theres no recovering a wild area like Bristol Bay’s headwaters once laid waste by mining.
Dig baby dig.
Currently sitting on my boat in a Southeast Alaska commercial fishing port. No. The Pebble mine is not popular here.
Thanks .
My suggestion is for the Army Corps of Engineers to come in and put into place protections for the bay, etc. Don’t make the company take it out of pocket and put in the minimal solution. Have the feds put in a robust solution. Almost everyone happy.
