I don’t think Republicans are burning Kenosha. So I don’t get the connection.
Wisconsin Lutheran College is an independent private Christian college. Mike Pence is a man of strong Christian faith. He seems like a good fit to speak at such a college.
I try really hard to not sit in judgement of people. However, I do wonder, what sorts of Christians run that college, that they would disinvite Pence over the Kenosha riots? This decision makes no sense.
Presumeably the powers that be at this college strongly oppose rioting and want to see peace in the streets. Mike Pence strongly opposes rioting and wants to see peace in the streets. So what’s the problem here?
Cancel Culture cannot abide an invasion of their smug, elitist, safe spaces by such a threatening presence as VP Michael “Gorilla” Pence! The laundry bill for the soiled panties alone would be immense!
bump
Another ‘Christian’ college caves to the handful (270) of leftists wishing to overthrow it.
Not a good thing - at all! :(
No bias there, Lutherans, eh?..............
What dies Pence or Trump, for that matter have to do with the leftist riots in WI?
If I was a studentI would make a show of boycotting commencement over this.
I suspect this christian church wants to avoid the plague of rampaging blm and antifa locusts.
I left the Lutheran church about nine years ago. One of the better decisions I ever made.
Intimidation. The school doesn’t want its campus destroyed.
Lutheran college. Sad. Lutheran in name only?
Wisconsin Lutheran College updating campus this summer with help of $5.2M gift
Wonder if that anonymous donation has anything to do with this...

I was born, baptized, confirmed and raised Lutheran. I attended a small Lutheran college. This once conservative, Christian college has gone so far left and liberal, I don’t even recognize it anymore. They have even done away with the mascot because it wasn’t politically correct. Their letters begging for money go directly into the trash. The Lutheran church I attend has also gone far left liberal. I was struggling with what I should do and where I should go. This long hiatus of not going to church has given me time to think. I wonder if there will even be a church when/if it ever opens again. My church left me, I didn’t leave my church.
Biden was a VP and he is now head of an "incredibly divisive and controversial ticket". I bet the letter writers would have no problem with Biden speaking there...
Who is their “non-controversial” replacement for Pence? Lori Lightfoot? Nancy Pelosi? Stacey Abrams? Pete Buttigieg?
There is no First Amendment right to shout down a speaker. If a governmental actor, such a public university, sides with the heckler by canceling the event or refusing to protect the speaker against use of force, it has failed to uphold the speakers free speech rights.
In Forsyth County v. Nationalist Movement (1992), the Supreme Court held that the First Amendment protects [t]hose wishing to express views unpopular with bottle throwers . . . Speech cannot be financially burdened, any more than it can be punished or banned, simply because it might offend a hostile mob.

When I was an undergraduate, former President Gerald Ford came to speak at my university. I got there early and waited for about 30 minutes to be one of the first inside (there werent many waiting). Got the center most seat in the first row and was just several feet away from President Ford while he was speaking. I guess that I was both wowed and impressed as this was the first time Id ever seen a president in person.
As he was departing, I had the now or never moment of sticking out my hand and shaking his. My gosh, the man had huge hands which totally enveloped mine.
Guess Im old school, but that was a moment in my lifetime not easily forgotten. Nor would a commencement address by any current Vice President, no matter who he or she might be.
I think it is just they didn’t want their campus burned down.
