And on Day 4, there was no more Mr. Nice Guy!
Republicans spent the better part of three nights in their convention presenting softer and gentler sides of President Trump, but the president gets the final words and he came out Thursday in a fighting mood.
His acceptance speech detailed his successes and offered promises aplenty for a second term, but the emphasis and energy were committed to a scorched-earth attack on Joe Biden and the Democrats. Trump threw so many punches at his opponent that, had it been a real heavyweight boxing match, the referee would have stopped it in the middle rounds out of mercy.
Some samples: This election will decide whether we save the American Dream, or whether we allow a socialist agenda to demolish our cherished destiny.
Then later: How can the Democrat Party ask to lead our country when it spends so much time tearing down our country?
After saying Biden had buckled to the demands of the socialists in his party, Trump asked: If he cant stand up to them, how is he going to stand up for you.
Many of the lines echoed Ronald Reagan, and the two men share key traits, perhaps the most important being a willingness to take on Washington from the inside without ever losing their outsiders perspective. If there was any doubt, Thursday night settled the question of whether four years in the White House have warmed Trumps heart to the Beltway.
No, no, a thousand times no.

How can the Democrat Party ask to lead our country when it spends so much time tearing down our country?
Best line of the night!
great speech, reaganesque and then some
I can’t spare this man.
He fights. And fights. And then fights some more...
“Trump threw so many punches at his opponent that, had it been a real heavyweight boxing match, the referee would have stopped it in the middle rounds out of mercy.”
The big takeaway from the speech is that Joe Biden is weak.
That's a metaphor.
The Democrats are actually scorching the earth in the cities they run, and in at least one case tried to scorch police officers.
I thought Trump was pretty tame with the delivery of a pretty pointed message.
Perspectives I suppose. We all have one.
That speech wasn’t meant for us.
It was a dark speech according to the dark forces on the left.
Far from scorched Earth. The Democrats own that.
It was a reality check for what is at stake this fall.
Joe Biden just got bitch-slapped.
And take a look at Biden’s eyes. There’s nothing behind them. His facial expressions are EXACTLY the ones my mother had when her dementia began to dramatically worsen.
On the other hand, Pres. Trump’s eyes shoot thunderbolts.
Unexpected
Massive
Dims discombobulated
I would hardly call this speech “scorched earth.” The accurate portrayal of the opposition was included in a wide-ranging speech that dealt with past accomplishments and new aspirations.
Don’t worry, when Trump goes all in on “scorched earth,” we won’t need a political commentator to let us know. It will be a sight to behold!
I expect Joe Hiden will come on tv from his basement with his face all covered with bandages and two black eyes.
I agree. That is why I thought it was so good. Very targeted to swing voters who do not share our love or enthusiasm for him.
It was a calmly delivered message of optimism and contrasts.
Indeed!
at first read, ‘scorched earth’ is a misnomer. Trump wants to build this country to former greatness, socialists want Venezuela.
Their only voting point - Hatred. And from that you see whats happening in Portland, Seattle, Chicago, Minneapolis, etc.
I think they write these things even before they hear the speech, if they even watch it at all.
I don't think so. People are PO'ed at the namby-pamby approach the GOP has taken for decades...a tact that has got them nowhere. Trump takes off the gloves and tells them give it their best shot. Sadly, their best shot is a candidate who hides in the basement, is afraid to debate, and can't form a coherent sentence. If that's the kind of leader a "swing voter" wants, I fear deeply for this Republic.
I am sooooo stealing that graphic
