God bless all these countless men and women who battle these blazes day and night, nonstop for weeks on end.
Do yourself a favor and never watch the factual based movie, "Only The Brave". It is based on the "Granite Mountain Hotshots" base in Prescott, AZ. All but one of the 20 brave souls were killed and burned. It's very well done, but very sad. I had no idea it happened until I watched it.
Although I support most LEO, firefighters have been and will always be my favorite heroes.
The Woodward Fire is the closest one to me in San Rafael.
I’m looking around for evacuation centers just in case I need to pack and go. I don’t want to drive aimlessly down 580 or 101.
Hopefully, that fire will not travel much more east than it already is. Nothing guaranteed. One of these days, it just may be ‘my turn’ to deal with a sudden evacuation, inconveniences, discomfort and all. That’s the risk one takes by living in this sort of area. Fires and earthquakes.
Good luck to you, Sir.
Thank you, and the same to you.
I watched the movie a couple years ago. It is really good. My wife liked it so much she went and visited the memorial one time she was visiting her brother in Scottsdale. She said the memorial was very moving.
Many of our favorite hiking parks on the Peninsula down to Santa Cruz are burning. The warning was issued this morning for Foothills Park in Palo Alto and the Palo Alto Hills. That is getting frighteningly close to home.
Don’t forget the EL CALRISO HOTSHOTS that died in 1966.
They climbed into a narrow canyon (what we called a flu) to do what they thought would be mop up work, the wind changed, a spot fire below them blew up.
12 DIED, 10 OTHERS WERE CRITICALLY BURNED.
A year later I was a CHILAO HOTSHOT.
The pay sucked, the hours were long, and the work was brutal; DAMN DID I LOVE IT.
That should have been EL CARISO HOTSHOTS.
don’t know how that L snuck in there, just stupid fingers I guess
I just found out that the rescue pilot is my niece’s teacher’s son :)
