Reference to Kamala Harris as ‘colored’ costs Cleveland radio anchor, 26, his job: reports

A radio station in Cleveland fired a news anchor this week after her referred to Democrat Kamala Harris as the nation’s “first colored vice presidential candidate,” according to reports.

Anchor Kyle Cornell, 26, used the description of Harris in a news promo spot that aired during WTAM radio’s broadcast of a Cleveland Indians baseball game, Cleveland.com reported.

Some baseball fans quickly posted negative reactions on social media, Cleveland's WKYC-TV reported.

You should know that “colored” is racist and forbidden. But “of color” is noble and strong. Get with it.

Like many people forced to tiptoe on eggshells, I think it is safest to not publicly refer to “them” at all; this has served me well for decades.

Maybe he was fired because his statement was actually wrong?
Republican Charles Curtis, the vice president of Herbert Hoover (1929-1932) was the first vice presidential candidate and first vice president of color. He was an enrolled member of the Kaw tribe in good standing.
