Season ticket holders down 80%.

Hubby is 80, sports his hobby, until I threw a HISSY FIT OVER THE KNEELERS. REMINDING HIM his day will come to lie under our Flag, 20 yr Career Navy Vietnam Vet, 7 other relatives from WW 2, Korea, Vietnam, lie under our Flag, 2 nephew brother 1 Army, 1 Border Patrol, several old Military who will soon join those already lying under our Flag.

Only fight we’ve ever had. I WON. If up to me I’d cancel the $200 cable not worth the horse manure on it, or Netflix pedophile junk.

Wife said to me 15 years ago, “Let’s quit watching TV”. I said , “Er, OK.” Best decision she (er, we) ever made.

Your Mario Lemieux story is really interesting - do you think NHL teams could get around the salary cap by offering a piece of team ownership as part of their contract negotiations? (I’m still sad over the Hawks losing Artemi Panarin, mostly due to long (and in some cases bloated) contracts to Kane, Toews, Keith and Seabrook).

On a side note, it’s gratifying to see that the NHL has mostly (if not completely) avoided high-profile wokeness, although there are some troubling signs on the fringes.

Contract negotiations these days are very complicated. On the one hand it’s in the player’s best interest to get as much money up front as possible in the form of a signing bonus. But on the other hand you don’t want to get an exorbitant income tax bill on a $10 million signing bonus in one year. So there’s a whole industry of financial planning that goes into structuring sports contracts in such a way that a player’s income is guaranteed while their tax liabilities are minimized.

I’m not sure the NHL-NHLPA agreements would even allow that these days. Lemieux was obviously in a unique situation under those circumstances — where you had an iconic NHL player whose name was associated with one team, and who had been in and out of retirement already for health reasons.

If you think about it, it seems to me like a bad arrangement for any number of reasons. Imagine if you’re the coach or GM of a team where a fading star player is also your boss. You can’t bench him or trade him, and how do other players on the team with their own egos deal with a player-owner in the locker room?

You make some really good points - sadly, when you’re looking at about a half a decade of Brent Seabrook instead of a couple more years of Artemi Panarin, desperate measures start to look plausible.

I'll tell you where you really saw all the flaws of the Chicago Blackhawks laid bare: in the 2017 expansion draft for the Las Vegas Golden Knights.

Every NHL team was allowed to protect 11 players, but one of the rules was that they were FORCED to protect every player on their roster that was under a contract with a no-trade or no-movement clause. So Chicago was forced to protect a whole bunch of veteran players who they probably would have loved to lose to the new Las Vegas team. Heck -- they even had to protect Marian Hossa ... even though he had taken that medical "leave of absence" but hadn't yet retired.

I understand why sports leagues adopt salary caps, but I hate the way they're implemented. For each professional sport that I used to follow closely as a serious fan, my interest in them started to diminish immediately after they implemented rules like salary caps and free agency that resulted in the frequent movement of players from one team to another. I've been a New Jersey Devils fan for more than 30 years since a few years after they arrived in New Jersey, and I'm at the point where I've lost so much interest that can't even name more than a half-dozen players on their roster anymore.

I saw her tweets sucking up to BLM while condescending golf enthusiasts who follow her who don’t quite fit the BLM demographic (I’m not a tweeter):

‘ This is not a political issue, this is a human rights issue. Have the uncomfortable conversation. Ask the uncomfortable questions. Listen. #BlackLivesMatter and those (like myself) who have never had to fight racism need to be the biggest advocates for change.’

She did a 30 second segment prior to the 3rd round of a tourney basically stating oppositional speech to BLM Marxist shit show riots starring mentally ill & forever unemployable cannot be tolerated.

Common response from her followers:

That 30 second clip you mention must be the one I saw where she made the comment about making certain views forbidden for public discourse.
