Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) said on Sunday that pardoning former National Security Agency (NSA) contractor and whistleblower Edward Snowden would be unconscionable after President Trump said he was considering the idea at a recent press conference.
Edward Snowden is a traitor. He is responsible for the largest and most damaging release of classified info in US history. He handed over US secrets to Russian and Chinese intelligence putting our troops and our nation at risk, Cheney, the No. 3 Republican in the House, tweeted on Sunday afternoon, adding; Pardoning him would be unconscionable.
A day before Cheneys comments, Trump said at a press conference at his golf club in New Jersey that he was looking at pardoning the former NSA contractor, who was charged with espionage years back after he released classified documents related to U.S. surveillance programs.
"Im going to look at it," Trump said at the news conference. "Im not that aware of the Snowden situation, but Im going to start looking at it."
"It seems to be a split decision. There are many people think that he should be somehow treated differently and other people think he did very bad things," he continued.
Earlier this week, Trump also told the New York Post that hes been thinking allowing Snowden, who is currently in Russia, to return to the U.S. without facing time behind bars.
Snowden is one of the people they talk about. They talk about numerous people, but he is certainly one of the people that they do talk about, the president told the paper.
I guess the DOJ is looking to extradite him right now? Its certainly something I could look at. Many people are on his side, I will say that. I dont know him, never met him. But many people are on his side, he also said.
His recent remarks come a little more than seven years after Trump said he thought Snowden was a terrible threat and traitor in an interview in 2013, while then-President Obama was in office.
This guy is really doing damage to this country, and hes also making us look like dopes. We cant allow this guy to go out there and give out all our secrets and also embarrass us at every level. We should get him back and get him back now, he added then.
One of my favs from the left...Cheney’s got a gun...
“”Edward Snowden is a traitor. He is responsible for the largest and most damaging release of classified info in US history.”””””
Quite the outrage from War Monger Liz.
Has she opined on the FBI, the CIA and the White house spying on candidate Trump and then President Trump?
I didn’t think so.
Bush League Republicans work for the deep state.
Edward Snowden’s act of “treason” is chump change compared to what members of the Deep State have done. I daresay that Miss Cheney’s father has his own stuff to hide from the American public.
Susan Rice and Cheney are in agreement. Surprise. Uniparty in action:
National Security apparatchiks like @AmbassadorRice (no longer an Ambassador) have wanted Snowden in prison for years because he exposed how they secretly and illegally converted the internet into their spying playground.
If DS doesn’t like it it must be good...trigger.
That is all he said. He didn't say he was considering it. It's the appropriate thing to do. Look into it.
Cheney is grandstanding.
She be wrong.
Almost sounds like he is ‘fishing’ again.
If he makes a statement like ‘since schools aren’t open’ and nobody ‘likes’ Christmas anyway, maybe we should just not give Paid holidays for Christmas.
Or something like that.
Problem is he would probably start ‘waking up’ the long rifles and other crazies.
DON’T tell me to celebrate Christmas but don’t you dare take away the paid holiday.
As bad as the anti Police protestors calling the Police when they have a ‘problem’ while blocking highways and right of ways
I swan, some have absolutely no sense of the meaning of irony and/or hypocrisy
We all knew the GOP-e was involved in spying on Americans.
I didn’t think Cheney was dumb enough to be involved in it.
She used to be a favorite of mine... now shes nothing more than a Romney/Kasich wannabe.
The Swamp is Deep in Liz.
What did she say about Manning? I need a frame of reference.
Butt Obama letting Bradford Manning out of prison was so marvy because a damn homofascist who joined the enlisted services SPECIFICALLY to spy and damage the Army (because he opposed Bill Clinton’s Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy) is so much better?
Don’t blame the messenger at Wikileaks.
And Seth Rich provided those DNC emails, not Russia.
Traitor really.to whom I don’t think Snowden is even a US citizen.
Is anyone close to Liz feeling the potential heat?
Supposedly, classifying things to cover a crime... is supposedly a crime.
