Gavin Newsom says $300 a week in added unemployment benefits is not enough, but he’ll take it

resident Donald Trump’s current proposal for additional unemployment benefits of $300 a week just doesn’t go far enough, California Gov. Gavin Newsom said during a Wednesday press conference.

But he said he won’t “look a gift horse in the mouth” now that Trump has said states do not have to come up with another $100 a week on their own. The Democratic governor said he’s working on how California can process the $300 in the president’s proposal “as quickly and efficiently as possible.”

The $600 in weekly additional federal unemployment benefits expired at the end of July, and Congress and the White House have been deadlocked in negotiations to extend some or all of that amount.

What a disgusting human being. He is more worried about unemployment money then opening up his state.

Newsom: Funny coincidence. $300 is also the amount I tip my hair stylist. Worth it. The guy’s a gem.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom said during a Wednesday press conference.

I've heard a few of his "word salad" pressers. Lots of fluff, platitudes, and nothing else. About as substantive as a Krispy Kreme donut.

If it had been $1000 a week he’d have said, “It’s not enough!”................

I think $300 was a good compromise from the $600, sure zero is better but the $300 might get more people back to work as well and the people who really do need will still accept it. Beggars can’t be choosers you know

POTUS’ proposal was $300 from the feds and the states paid the other $100. Newsom has already said cali can’t afford to do that.

The idea Mr Newsom is to take away the incentive for folks to not go back to work and instead just sit at home and draw unemployment benefit checks at the expense of the working tax payers. Open up the country and put everyone who wants to work back to work.

“What a disgusting human being. He is more worried about unemployment money then opening up his state.”

Let us get our hair cuts, our wives get their nails and hair done and reopen our restaurants/wine tasting places, and we will need a lot less unemployment as more people will be working.

The taxes on the above will increase both sales and income taxes to lessen the debt at all levels of government.

May Covid 19 take out all of these terrible blue state governors.

That was before he modified his exec order. Sunday he said the states could pull the $100 from federal funds.

Max cali UI is $605/wk. +300=$900/wk. X 52weeks=47K/yr.

Thats paying people to NOT work. That not “unemployment”.

Exactly, this is socialism at it's finest and we'll soon be a broke country because of it.

Standard CA UI benefits are about $440/week.

Add $300 to that and it’s too much.

$3000 per month to sit home. Plus all the OTHER benefits.

WA state UI benefits are already over $500/week.

So you’ll take it. The negotiation is over. Stop whining about the deal you just accepted.
