“We are waking up in shock this morning,” said Mayor Lori Lightfoot, calling it “brazen criminal looting and destruction.”
Chicago Police Supt. David Brown, who joined the mayor for a news conference at CPD headquarters Monday, called it “pure criminality” not connected to any peaceful protest.
“Criminals took to the streets with the confidence that there would be no consequences for their actions,” Brown said, adding that police would aggressively pursue cases against people involved in the looting.
Brown and Lightfoot also called on the Cook County state’s attorney’s office to handle the arrests from the looting seriously, arguing that previous arrests by Chicago Police from looting in May and June were not. With local prosecutors dropping cases, looters believed there would be no serious consequences for committing crimes.
Cook Count State’s Attorney Kim Foxx has previously pushed back at that characterization, saying the data does not support the “narrative” that people arrested on gun charges are quickly released and commit more crimes.

It’s strange times in New York City. COVID — and confused government policies — has commercial buildings desolate in Manhattan. Few are returning to work in their offices despite politicians proclaiming otherwise. Restaurants can open for food but not for drinks. Gatherings are forbidden — unless it is to protest. Crime is through the roof, months after elected officials allowed looting and forced police to turn a blind eye.

The Magnificent Mile of Chicago is an upscale shopping and residential area. This is affecting some wealthy and powerful people in a personal way.
Mayor Lightfoot quickly added, "Of course, we'll need to let them out without bail in the interests of fairness. I'll direct Kim Foxx to quash the cases because slavery."
The looters had sufficient time to rent U-Haul trucks to move the stolen goods.
How hard can it be to trace the rental vehicles?
Will Kim Foxx return to her prosecutorial office to lead the prosecutions? She has been “quarantined” in the suburbs for three months.

26th and California was known as the revolving door for criminals.
For anyone here who’s unfamiliar with Chicago, the “Magnificent Mile” is the stretch of upscale stores and businesses along Michigan Avenue, bordering the lake front, that attracts most of the upscale shoppers and visitors to the city, IOW pretty much the city’s crown jewel. If the looters and criminals destroy it, they go along way to destroying whatever remaining attractiveness the city may have for outside visitors and whatever remaining tax base it may have.

A much better headline would be “Dozens Of Looters Shot In Chicago Rioting”.
