A misunderstanding of Virginias independent cities and counties apparently led a nonprofit voter registration group to mail 587,638 absentee ballot applications to Virginia voters that asked them to send the ballot back to the wrong election office.
The Center for Voter Information said the mishap was an honest mistake mainly affecting voters in a handful of localities that share a name: including Fairfax City and Fairfax County, Richmond City and Richmond County, Roanoke City and Roanoke County, and Franklin City and Franklin County....
The mass mailing, which involved more than 2.2 million pre-filled absentee ballot applications statewide, sowed confusion for many voters and local election officials, who quickly sought to inform voters it was not coming from an official government source....
The Center for Voter Information bills itself as nonpartisan, but a job posting lists the organization as a progressive group that focuses on what it calls the rising American electorate, or unmarried women, people of color and young people.

It’s a local affiliate. The network has little control over those stories.
I think they did do this out of stupidity, they are out of state idiots who didn’t know the difference.
“”misunderstanding””
How long do they think that will be a valid excuse for chiseling on an election??? Nasty names are too good for those people...
....maybe, maybe not....Virginia is rather unique in that cities are completely independent, chartered entities and are NOT considered as part of any county in which they may be located (in some cases, they don’t even like each other very much...Henrico and Chesterfield counties and their often rocky relationships to the independent City of Richmond...).
But a search of the appropriate Federal Information Processing Standards or FIPS codes could have avoided all this (FIPS Code for City of Richmond = 760; FIPS Code for County of Richmond = 159)....

Thanks.
Interesting to see what “wrong” address was on the applications envelopes - probably the local democrat headquarters.
Thanks - that makes sense...
I just can’t believe that NBC actually reported this.
Aren’t they heavy dem districts...
Im guessing they wanted duplicates from dem districts for ballot harvesting
'Wish I had a dollar for every time I heard NBC News say, "Trump claims".
There is going to be so much cheating this election year that any result is going to be challenged in the courts for weeks. I am not looking forward to this election at all, unless Trump signs a EO that enforces mandatory ID checks at all polling stations, no mail in ballots, and no ballot harvesting.
Sounds like something they would do.
Total rascals...total disgrace.
Multiply this “honest mistake” times 50 states. That could be well over 25 million ballots!
Well as long as it was an “honest” mistake, all is forgiven.
Is there any other kind?
“There’s no vote fraud.”
Voting absentee should be the exception, and therefore should only be legally applied for by the voter directly.
This would be no different than the defense lawyer in a criminal case mailing jury duty deferment applications to everyone in a ZIP code, whether they're selected for jury duty or not.

Non-profit?
How does a non-profit group be so sloppy with its money?
Will this snafu bankrupt this non-profit group, or do they have "deep pockets" to throw away money like this?

Just wait until Biden gets a record number of popular votes. It's coming.
This "non-profit" must be financed by someone, and clearly dumping all these absentee ballot applications is to facilitate cheating.
