American versions of this tune set the story in "one of our Western states." This version by an Irish personality that was a big hit in Ireland and the UK sets the action in "one of THE Western states."

This may not qualify as being "of Ireland" but Rory Gallagher was a legendary rock/blues guitarist from Cork. IMHO, one of the most under rated guitarists ever:

A tribute by an Irish singer to the former Westlake Park in Los Angeles, renamed in 1942 in honor of General Douglas MacArthur, who at the time was fighting to hold back the Japanese onslaught in the Far East.
