Unfortunately, some people are going to have to learn the hard way, not to climb our fences. These incidents are concentrated in areas of recent construction - especially the two from this last weekend.

After an initial flush in the first few months, or maybe a year or two, the rate of these incidents will decline, as people get deterred, and as Border Patrol continues to strengthen that segment, incrementally finishing all the supporting components of the comprehensive Wall System package.

Just the addition of concertina on top of the bollards will keep most people from trying them.

The problem right now is that it is monsoon season in Arizona so the flood gates that are built into the fence are all open. We spend a lot of time during shift driving from one opening to another in order to push people back south.

Falling at a rate of 32 feet per second per second, the learning about falling off the wall was limited to about one second
