This was a foolish comment. It doesn’t matter whether he was serious or just trolling as some have suggested. It is giving ammunition to the other side. There was no upside to saying something like this. That he would even joke about something so flagrantly unconstitutional is frankly disturbing.

I agree with your post on all counts. But some folks here believe that every last thing Trump does is part of some clever master plan. I respect those folks, and I respect their opinions. Trump is truly the last hope for the Republic. But I don’t think he is infallible.

This was not a wise tweet by Trump. He just gave the left a truck load of ammo. The left will brand this not as the suggestion it was, but as a threat to democracy. This plays right into the crazy argument that Trump wants to become dictator, which is exactly where the left has been going by branding the deployed federal agents as “stormtroopers.” In the best of times a large percentage of Americans are half-witted enough to fall for the lefts arguments. With the virus hanging around, supposedly, and the struggling economy, many Americans are operating on emotion and an even greater percentage will fall for the lefts arguments. Trump out-foxed himself on this one. The left can and will easily exploit this tweet for the remainder of the campaign. Trump just handed them the best issue they will have, and the best argument for the mail-in ballot they could ever have made.
