Alabama lawmaker urged to resign over ‘great time’ at event honoring KKK leader

A state lawmaker in Alabama is being called on to resign for saying he had a “great time” honoring a Confederate Army general and former Ku Kluk Klan leader this weekend.

In a since-deleted post, Rep. Will Dismukes, R-Prattvile, said Sunday on Facebook that he enjoyed speaking at an event at Fort Dixie in Selma, where he gave an invocation for Nathan Bedford Forrest’s annual birthday celebration.

“Always a great time and some sure enough good eating!!” Dismukes wrote.

The post was quickly denounced by the chairman of the Alabama Democratic Party, who called it “totally insensitive,” the Montgomery Advertiser reports.

“It should not be where the state of Alabama is in 2020, where one of our elected officials in Alabama celebrates someone like that,” Rep. Christopher England, D-Tuscaloosa, said.

Democrats in the state also noted that Dismukes spent his weekend honoring Forrest rather than the late Rep. John Lewis, a “giant” of the Civil Rights movement.

Wasn’t Lewis your typical loud mouth angry black politician liberal that was partisan beyond all belief? You mean that “hero”?

Forrest actually advocated for voting and other rights for blacks later in his life and he caught some flak for that position. Forrest haters always seem to forget that part of his life.

Absolutely. You can go on Nancy Pelosi’s own website and see a transcript of her eulogy honoring Robert Byrd.

The very idea that the speaker of the house could and did honor a KKK grand Kleagle is astonishing.

Chris Crock here in Dallas pointed out today that if the left wants to eliminate any and all things remotely associated with Racism, they MUST eliminate the Democrat Party.

The Democrat Party was the party of slavery which opposed Lincoln’s freeing of the slaves. It was the party of the Jim Crow laws. It was the part of the KKK.

All signs of the democrat party and of course sheets byrd should be eradicated if they want to be the tiniest bit consistent.

It is ironic that the left can forgive Lincoln for his racist statements and actions from 1854 up to his death yet former Confederates are never forgiven even considering their contributions to education, race relations, service to the US and healing after the Civil War. Nevermind that General Forrest at his order disbanded the KKK in 1867 because the former Confederates were no longer disenfranchised with respect to voting. The KKK only reemerged after the General’s death. Facts mean nothing to the progressives destroying our history and heritage.

I resent the characterization of Nathan Bedford Forrest as “leader of the KKK.” Yes, he was one of the early leaders, a position he later resigned and said he greatly regretted. But first and foremost, he was a highly accomplished Confederate cavalry commander on a par with JEB Stuart. His Klan involvement defined one small portion of his life. His military prowess was legendary. Why focus on the former, not the latter?

I would not be at or associate myself with anything Klan, BUT if this guy wanted to, so be it. He shouldn’t resign. Let the voters decide.

PC is destroying our country.

Cancel culture is cancelling our culture.

Don’t “cancel” him, vote him out. Maybe you shouldn’t have voted him in.

His name was LOTHROP STODDARD....He wrote a book called THE RISING TIDE OF COLOR while he worked at PP and in this book he states that blacks are so stupid, they will always need whites leading them......
