One line in history is that the bagpipe was invented by an Irishman and given to a Scottsman as a joke; but the Scottsman didn’t get the joke; and being scotch, he wouldn’t throw anything away, including the prank bagpipe. (I wonder whether an additional prank might have been to convince the Scottsman that he must wear a skirt and carry a purse when he plays the pipes)?
