South Korean officials said Monday that a North Korea defector who arrived in the South in 2017 had returned to North Korea.
The New York Times reported that the unidentified 24-year-old man who was referred to authorities by his family name Kim had crossed a narrow strait to the north of Gangwha Island, the same area he was thought to have used to enter South Korea in 2017 upon his initial defection.
We spotted the specific location from which he crossed over to the North on Ganghwa Island, said a South Korean military official.
His fate in the North remains unknown; defectors are often sent to political prison camps in North Korea if they are repatriated, and North Korean officials had said Sunday that the man was also thought to be carrying coronavirus, though South Korean officials told the Times there was no evidence he had been tested or in contact with infected persons.

The Stockholm Syndrome is strong in this one.
If he thought his life sucked in South Korea, his life really sucks now.
I imagine it’s tough to stay away knowing that you’re family was sent to a death camp to be worked to death unless you returned.
He missed those beatings.
A foolish decision unless he was a spy.
Or he was a spy.
Poor strategery unless he was a plant from the beginning.
This time I don't believe he'll survive them.
This is insane.
That could very well be. Even then the fate is the same, if you stay away your family will be worked to death.
I considered that but unless he was given a government job or access to government secrets what information could he give NK ?
You are probably right.
They also could probably figure out if he was.
He was an agent.
It was reported that he is wanted in South Korea for rape.
Well that certainly narrows it down!
Which is worse. Going to a South Korean prison for rape or returning to North Korea as a defector?
For starters, every single thing he can about his interrogators, the questions they asked, where they housed him. etc.

With one, you are beat and tortured until near death.
With the other, well...
LOL!
I imagine its tough to stay away knowing that youre family was sent to a death camp to be worked to death unless you returned.
Now, his family is still being worked to death, and he is probably already dead.
