The Crackdown on Turkish Journalism:

Abdullah Bozkurt was bureau chief in the capital Ankara for the paper’s English-language edition, Today’s Zaman. On March 4, 2016, Bozkurt found himself struggling to put out the newspaper’s final edition – even as he watched on live television as police in riot gear fired tear gas and water cannons on protesters and stormed Zaman’s headquarters 220 miles (350 km) to the west in Istanbul.

Shortly before court-appointed trustees seized control of the newspaper’s computer system, Bozkurt wrote the headline for the last cover of Today’s Zaman. “Shameful Day for Free Press in Turkey,” it read. “Zaman Media Group Seized.”

Zaman had been in Erdogan’s crosshairs for some time for its sympathies with the Gülen movement, an opposition group affiliated with a U.S.-based Islamic cleric that Erdogan has branded a “terrorist” organization. It had particularly angered the government for its aggressive coverage of a 2013 corruption investigation that led to the arrests of three sons of ministers in then-prime minister Erdogan’s government, Bozkurt says.

Abdullah Bozkurt has been an X-pat Turkish writer since 2016. I have read his articles for years in various sources, he is informed and accurate.

The buildings and town are so ugly and unappealing the whole thing has to be a loan-scam. Springtime for Hitler goes real-estate. No doubt they borrowed more than necessary to build, then pocketed half of it, paying off Erdogan and his cronies, then went bankrupt, screwing the creditors and the workers.

All according to plan. Whatever cash they got from idiot buyers was gravy.

Yep, Turkey has basically two premium zones: Istanbul and tourist towns on the Med Coast.
Everything else is oxacart and 19th century. The ‘luxury’ housing in Northern Anatolia sounds like a joke, especially in 400,000 euro range.
Before a crisis in a boom time you could get a penthouse with marble floors and top amenities in Alanya for half that much.
The idea to offer citizenship to Arabs over property purchase is a dumb idea.
Turkey traditionally is super clean and zero crime. Last time I’ve been to Alanya last summer and every other car with Iraqi and whatever else plate, beggars in the street, crap, broken windows, people complaining about home invasions.
I think Erdogan lost it.

He wraps it all in God and Country, to sell to the folks who will do the dying and bill paying, for his own self-serving expansionist use of the Nation’s Military.

He claims that it is all others encroaching on Turkey, when in all cases, it is him encroaching on other Nations.

And every one of the places where he wants to expend Turkish blood and treasure to gain control, happens to be an area with oil and gas - the main industry he corruptly pilfers, to amass a huge fortune for his own family.

He is just out for himself, and he stokes Nationalism and jihad to justify it, and to whip up the troops.

He is a Crime Lord.

Erdogan is perhaps one of the worst dictators around rivaling only those in China,Cuba or Venezuela. He and his son bilal have been using Turkey as a bank for years and have looted it to the hilt. Now they are desperate to keep the truth of Turkey and its muslim hardcore pinnings to the world fearful it will become yet another Iran without the mullahs.
At this point with Turkey going mad muzzie all the way its hard to see a way that it gets turned around.

5 years from now will he be setting up a new caliphate in Libya and the word Neo-Ottoman Empire becomes a thing?

If Biden gets elected, He’ll have his shot and with oil/ME tourism in the tank, the number of 15-40 year old male, Arab Useful idiots has never been higher.

Look at the scope of it. Madness.

But China has places like this too. Probably close to 50 of them, some big enough to house 1,000,000 people.

That is a product of Totalitarianism.

Trump is the solution.

Trump unfortunately has a hotel in Turkey.

I have a Monthly Conference call with a Turkish division. The guys are super nice and super apologetic and are very quick to correct false media narratives (like I have to when I talk to Europeans)... but they don’t talk about Erdogan.

Yes, but Erdoo is pushing the envelope and in total defiance to the world about all the invasions he is attempting to try and remain in power.

They cannot. I never make friends with people in Turkey, many of them are friendly on Twitter. The last thing I want to do is bring them under the magnifying glass. It can be fatal.
