Never Trumpers Comprise Tennessee’s Manny Sethi’s Entire Senior Campaign Staff

Dr. Manny Sethi, a candidate for the GOP nomination for U.S. Senate in Tennessee, decided to surround himself with Never Trumpers, including his campaign manager who believes President Donald Trump is a “divisive, short-fingered vulgarian.”

Sethi has presented himself as a “conservative outsider” in the race against the Trump-backed Bill Hagerty, but all the people he has brought into every senior role in his campaign are devout Never Trump political consultants.

His campaign manager Forrest Barnwell-Hagemeyer, for instance, is a former staffer to former Ohio Gov. John Kasich—a Never Trumper expected to endorse 2020 presumptive Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden. Kasich is so far in for Biden that he is expected to abandon the Republican Party altogether to speak at the Democrat National Convention (DNC), or whatever semblance of a DNC there is, to try to oust Trump. On his Facebook page, Barnwell-Hagemeyer still has a photograph of him wearing a Kasich shirt from April 5, 2016, when the former Ohio governor was trying to stop Trump from winning the GOP nomination.

A couple weeks before that Kasich shirt photo, Barnwell-Hagemeyer in a now-deleted March 23, 2016, Facebook post, attacked then-candidate Trump while hyping a speech then-House Speaker Paul Ryan made attempting to distance Republicans from the man who would become president.

Neither has solid credentials. Hagerty is an establishment RINO and Bushbot. He was a campaign finance official with Willard the Rat’s team in 2012 (warning sign both times). He was supporting El Jebbe initially in 2016 until he crashed and burned before switching to Trump (by which time it was obvious he would be the nominee).

The President and Trump Jr. endorsed Hagerty, but I don’t see him as loyal, just an opportunist who got an Ambassadorship to Japan for it. He’s done nothing for the GOP in TN. Certainly not for Conservatives.

Dr. Sethi’s problem is he has no record, which makes him an outsider. Some anti-establishment people have supported him. Sen. Blackburn opposes him. Sens. Rand Paul and Ted Cruz do support him.

I wanted freshman Rep. Mark Green to run, otherwise it left nothing but these second-tier guys. Hagerty is afraid to debate Sethi and the bulk of TN FReepers don’t have a good opinion of Hagerty, who seems to think he’s entitled to the seat.

I’m leaning to Sethi myself, but I feel like these really aren’t the best choices for a U.S. Senate seat. Whomever is nominated will win. The Dems will have a desultory challenger in November as they can’t win here anymore.

Thank you! I don’t have the time to thoroughly look into these things anymore.

If Hagerty truly believes he’s the better choice, he needs to accept Sethi’s challenge for a debate (which he has dodged — a bad sign). If Sethi is a fake, he needs to expose him at a debate. Otherwise, it just looks like he’s desperate to be coronated for a Senate race he didn’t expect to have to really compete for.

If there is any good news to be wrung out of this unseemly wrangle it is that each candidate is accusing the other of stealthy leftism.

Not knowing very much, I would put my money on Mark Levin's choice and Ted Cruz' choice.

“divisive, short-fingered vulgarian.”

What the hell? Short-fingered??? Am I suppose to ditch Trump and his promises because of the shape of his hands? They look normal to me.

Who goes around noticing finger length and why does it matter? It sounds gay, very gay.

Both of these guys are presenting themselves as the “true conservative in the race” but I’m afraid they’re both true RINOs in the race. But, at least for now, I’m voting for Dr. Manny.

From what you describe they are two bad options.

Was no MAGA candidate willing to take a shot at the seat?

Neither here nor there, but....How does one classify someone as “for Trump up until now, but no longer for him”?

Is that technically “never Trumper”? Its a bit elusive of a classification. I mean, is there “Not always for Trumper” and “No Longer for Trumper” s? Trying to get my head around it (as Millenials might say).

An opportunist. If opportunists are for Trump, that’s a good thing. But an authentic deplorable would be better.

Probably why Trump endorsed his opponent. But I believe McConnell has endorsed Sethi. Hmmmmm.

The overwhelming consensus choice of Tennessee constitutional conservatives is Manny Sethi. Sethi has even made himself available to speak to conservative groups, whereas Hagerty seems more intent on simply hiding behind the McConnelll-negotiated-endorsements-for-judges Trump endorsement and running out the clock.

The respected (by conservatives) site DailyRollCall.com has provided extensive documentation regarding Hagerty - including his past hiring support for a known Islamist in state government - which should dissuade any conservative from casting a vote in his favor.

Honestly, there are a number of bona fide conservatives among the other gazillion candidates, but none of them stand the remotest chance of winning. Dr. George Flinn, for example, has been a friend to the Tea Party since its inception, but despite spending millions of his own dollars in numerous Senate and House races, he has never been able to cross the finish line in first place.

Hagerty is McConnell’s pick. Trump is just fulfilling his endorsements-for-judges deal with McConnell.

While Sethi is, admittedly, a bit of an unknown, Hagerty’s knowns indicate that he is following the Establican handbook of running as a conservative up to election day and then running Left as soon as the election is over. (see DailyRollCall.com. There is an entire category for Bill Hagerty)

I am a big Mark Green fan, but I suspect Mark has other plans for the future that do not include the Senate.

Assuming the USA does not degenerate into the USSA, Mark has the potential to someday (successfully) run for POTUS.
