This could be interesting since the water is exceptionally cool close to the shore. Doesn't matter though, the fish aren't biting anyway.

The water is plenty warm for Hanna to further develop before reaching the coast.

The water is most certainly not cool close to shore. I’ve looked at TCHPs and they are the highest they have been in years. TCHPs along the Texas Coast are the highest I can find going back 5 years....but probably to 2005. The water temp due south of Galveston is 86 degrees at buoy 42035. Not sure what you want.

Could be,I haven’t seen a surface temp map in a few days but Harvey cleaned up the trees so I don’t expect much. I live on a sandbar 14’ above sea level so power outages are about all I expect. When you live in hurricane country you’re always prepared.

Lots of people are escaping liberal strangleholds to more conservative hurricane prone areas. The coastal newbies are likely not hurricane ready as the rest of us weather-wise residents.

This is from the 12th but from the looks of the surf it hasn't moved much.

LMAO! Remember all the hoarders from a few months ago? Nothing like a packed freezer after a day or two without power.

Not sure your SST map is accurate for current data. Port Aransas reports 89.1ºF, Port Mansfield 88.7ºF, and Rockport 89.4ºF. Plenty warm.

Rockport and Port Mansfield are bay temps and Port A is at the Coast Guard station inside the jetties. Here's a map from the 22nd (as recent as I could find.)

The LOWEST temp on that scale is 27.2C - which is still 81F. The MIN temp needed for tropical development is 80F.

HOWEVER - that is well away from where the storm will be tracking and the storm will spend most of its time over 29C (84F) water with the last 2-4 hours over 28C (82F) water - which is STILL warm enough to sustain a Cat1/2 hurricane (not that I am forecasting that - just that it's warm enough to sustain that).

But - know when I say that it's warm enough - I do know what I am talking about. I spent 32 years as a meteorologist for the military - and have forecasted tropical weather for decades. This is what I did for a living.

I was hoping for a more northwesterward track but, it’s July and we’ll take what we can get here in the Austin area.

Will a tropical storm or hurricane spread the virus?

If it will keep you from staring up into the clouds with your mouth open and drowning in raindrops, I'll say yes.
