The Sierra Club will remove monuments of its founder John Muir over his racist history, the environmental conservation organization announced Wednesday morning.
The green group, which Muir founded in 1892, said that as the country begins to reassess the purpose and meaning of Confederate statues and memorials, “it’s time to take down some of our own monuments, starting with some truth-telling about the Sierra Club’s early history.”
Muir, who fought to preserve Yosemite Valley and Sequoia National Forest, made derogatory statements about Black and Indigenous people. The Sierra Club said that as the “most iconic figure in Sierra Club history, Muir’s words and actions carry an especially heavy weight.”
The organization said Muir's words "continue to hurt and alienate Indigenous people and people of color who come into contact with the Sierra Club."
“The most monumental figure in the Sierra Club’s past is John Muir,” it said in a statement. “Beloved by many of our members, his writings taught generations of people to see the sacredness of nature.”

Muir was beloved by liberals.
Much, much more importantly, they have refused to concede an inch on Margaret Sanger for 100 years. They have flatly refused to even discuss her racism and eugenics because both of those were the beating heart of Wilsonian progressivism.
And yesterday the mobs metaphorically hung her upside down in the public square.
Muir was one of their own enviroloon high priests. So many of these rampaging fools will get theirs soon enough. Mr. Useful Idiot meet Mr. Long Knife.

We’ve entered a new phase when the liberals are running out of “our” historical icons to attack for “racism” and are moving on to attacking “their” own historical icons (John Muir, Margaret Sanger et al.) for racism.

Dear Sierra Club: Either continue to honor John Muir (while acknowledging his “racism” if true), or disband your organization!!!!
The “derogatory statements” may have very well have been true and based on specific events and persons. Why do Liberals assume that indigenous persons and other non-Whites as being above the pitfalls of Original Sin or (from a non-Theist view) human vice?
