So man fires burned for 2-3 days you could have seen the orange glow and lit up smoke anyway.
I also admit to being born in Detroit (the hospital was there but my parents shortly took me to the suburbs where we actually lived).
In July, 1967 was getting my political science degree at Wayne State University and sorting and delivering US and campus mail. We had a uniformed National Guardsman who rode on the running board of the passenger door of our big mail truck and had his rifle at a 45 degree angle, watching the building windows above. When we got out to deliver packages he said "I'm covering you but watch for snipers you guys."
Your park story: At Tiger Stadium the owner refused to allow the broadcasters and anyone else to announce or phone anyone to tell them the riots were starting not very far away. The spectators were trapped when rioting took over more streets. Had to escape by opposite routes out of the deadly Detroit to get away. A shame.

In some neighborhoods, this is true, at least it was back then.
In my neighborhood, this was the case on certain nights of the year; Devil’s Night (night before Halloween),
New Years Eve (people shooting shotguns in the sky at midnight. No one knows who started that ‘tradition’.

But looking at the big picture, I see these stories as giant pro Trump ads.
A story like this is going to shift thousands - maybe tens of thousands - of votes to Donald Trump.
People do not like their free speech infringed upon, especially when it hits close to home. Somebody getting fired for stating a fact.
Think of all the teachers, administrators, entrepreneurs, executives, professionals, law enforcement officers - even writers, comedians, musicians. Whatever. They are asking themselves - could I be fired for disagreeing or speaking my mind or even stating a fact?
A big part of everyone’s life and livelihood depends on decision making - forming an opinion, arguing the case, and acting on it.
When these people see story after story of other people just like them getting fired for expressing a non PC view - it makes them feel unsafe.
I think this kind of a story is going to make a lot of people extremely uncomfortable - and drive people away from the Democrat party l, regardless of how they feel about Trump.

This is a gift. He can sue for wrongful termination and win. Open and shut discrimination case. Damages are evident.
I don’t know about that. Many reading or hearing about this, if they are libs, are thinking that the victim deserved it. Especially a teacher. Because, God forbid those educating children should have an independent thought.
I seriously do not have that much faith in those who identify as liberals, democrats or any form of either.
Now, independents and libertarians, they might be swayed but I think they were already veering right anyway.

Yes, unfortunately nothing new...I recall in junior high years late 70’s there was a lot of nonsense “we are the world” crap taught...I’m sure it’s worse now. Wouldn’t know as we homeschooled our six kids all the way through HS. All are either college grads or near grads, now. All started college while high school age.
