The judge and her criminal defense attorney husband use different last names. The husband had reportedly received threats.

Whoever arranged for the hit wouldn't necessarily have known that they were married.

Having grown up in New Jersey (and watched The Sopranos) a hit on the family of a Federal judge seems something way too stupid for the the Mob (Italian-American Mafia) to have done.

My guess would be a Mexican drug gang.
