Philly Mayor bans everything but BLM protests

Philly Mayor Jim Kenney announced Tuesday that the city would not allow large public gatherings through at least February 28, 2021, but specifically said the ban doesn’t apply to demonstration activities like Black Lives Matters protests.

“I’m disappointed to confirm that we are canceling large public events through February 28, 2021, due to the public health crisis,” the Mayor wrote on Facebook.

He continued:

The cancellation does not apply to:

– Demonstrations and First Amendment–protected activities

– Outdoor gatherings that are not publicly advertised (such as picnics and weddings) with 50 or fewer guests

– Organized outdoor recreation and sports with 25 or fewer people

– Events on private property, like venues and stadiums

Although the mayor specifically allowed events in stadiums and venues, he clarified through the city manager that the city would not allow professional sports teams to play in front of fans this year.

In fact, the expiration of the order looks timed to specifically rule out NFL games for 2020 since the Super Bowl is scheduled for February 7, 2021.

Kenney is already under fire for dropping citations of protesters who illegally participated in protests from May 30 until June 30.

“My decision to waive these violations is not a statement on the validity of the individual citations,” Kenney said. “Rather, it is a recognition of the core concerns that caused thousands to demonstrate on the streets of Philadelphia.

Kenney’s core concern is pandering to progressives.

Kenney is a Democrat in the mold of Mike Bloomberg, concentrating on issues like climate change, sugary drink taxes, free heroin injection sites, opioid control and feuding with Donald Trump, as paramount to Philadelphia’s survival.

Like a lot of white liberals, Kenney can’t govern his city because if he’s tough on crime, he’ll lose the support of his base and if he’s permissive with crime, he’ll lose control of his city.

Between the two, like other white liberal mayors, Kenney is choosing to let crime go unanswered and hope for the best. White mayors in Minneapolis, Seattle, St. Louis, Portland and other cities have found it difficult to satisfy the needs of progressives to feel virtuous with the needs of citizens to live crime-free, and thus have seen crime soar over the last two months.

As a sop to his base, Kenney has established a Reconciliation Steering Committee for Philadelphia, helping to recognize Juneteenth as a holiday for the city. He also covered the iconic statue of Christopher Columbus with a wooden box during the anti-statute spasm of last month.

“Now more than ever, it’s critically important to acknowledge America’s original sin of slavery—something we as a nation have never atoned for,” said the Mayor in a statement declaring the Juneteenth holiday.

The Democrats are using the antifa and BLM rioters to spread the virus.

So you’re not allowing any large public events until at least February 28 of 2021. I don’t know what events the city will usually have in that timeframe, but I am willing to bet that eventually the leftists will get upset that some of their favorite events will now be canceled for potentially two years in a row, that is if they ever return.

Think about any event that got canceled this year and is Scheduled for anytime before next May. With the threat of cancellation looming again next year I suspect many event organizers will cancel as well.

At that point I bet we will see the left start to eat their own over these continued event cancellations. They all hopped on the cancel train to try to hurt Trump, but Now this idiot mayor has taking the ball and ran with it and it is now hurting his own voters. This should be fun to watch.

Demonstrations and First Amendment–protected activities

Would I be correct in assuming, that only socialist/communist activities will be allowed?

“My decision to waive these violations is not a statement on the validity of the individual citations,” Kenney said.

Of course it is. What a friggin POS. Typical democrat.

Commies create a two-tier system of justice.

Party members can do whatever they want.

The law is just for everybody else.

The city, i.e. the state, is prohibiting a private entity, an NFL team, from holding a public assembly (a game with the public audience)?

Sounds like a First Amendment violation to me.

everyone should keep a piece of paper with BLM written on it in their pocket. Then if anyone says anything about them not wearing a mask.. simply pull out the paper and say... I’m immune!

“The cancellation does not apply to:

I’m pretty sure that would include freedom of worship, but I guess Kenney is not familiar with that part of the First Amendment.

One ‘crisis’ clearly trumps the other in the soft-heads of city liberals.

As long as they’re tearing up the inner cities I guess we can play this game endlessly. But if they take it to the near suburbs the’ll probably get a counter-demonstration that’ll make Charlotte look like a game of touch football by comparison. Sadly I think that this is where this will end up. The “Wiff of Grape” will happen just a few miles outside the city borders.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

So church services, pro Trump and anti Kenney rallies are allowed, until they are not.

Brilliant. Shove the absurdity back in their face. And finish with "check your privilege".
