The charges against GOP Rep. Steve Watkins came three weeks before the states Aug. 4 primary election with fellow Republicans pushing to oust him from the eastern Kansas seat he barely won in 2018, even though hes largely toed the conservative policy line and supported President Donald Trump. ...
... District Attorney Mike Kagay announced them less than half an hour before the three GOP candidates only scheduled debate began on three stations.
...
The most serious criminal charge accuses Watkins of voting in the 2019 local city and school board election without being qualified. A first-time offender whos convicted could face a year in prison, though the more typical sentence would be two years probation.
Kagay also charged Watkins with voting illegally in advance and interfering with law enforcement by providing false information. Both felonies could bring up to seven months in prison, though a years probation is the presumed sentence.
Watkins also was charged with failing to notify the state Division of Vehicles of a change of address, a misdemeanor.

Sounds like a total hit job imho. Which shows how the swamp works, they pick off people who don't fall in line, one by one.
Why no investigation of these Cleveland precincts that report 100% democrat?
Taht’s the problem. He’s pro-Trump, so the GOP Establishment needs to destroy him.
Steve Watkins, the face of voter fraud.
Because, it doesn’t exist, you know.
Tie him in a bag and throw him in the Arkansas River...a Roman Republican method for dealing with corruption.
Prove it, then prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law-just like ANYONE ELSE who gets caught doing that stuff!
Probably got hit with the change of address because that is usually linked to where you vote.
Stupid, stupid, stupid.
He needs to drop out of the race immediately, like the old days. If he’s innocent he can prove it later. These charges sound very easy to prove or disprove.
I don’t know, he apparently applied for funds as a permanent resident of Alaska (everyone gets oil money) and his Kansas address was a UPS store where presumably his PO box is.
He barely won in 2018, getting 26% in a divided primary and nearly losing to the rat in November. Seems like his daddy funded his campaign.
The State Treasurer launched a primary bid against him months ago.

They are really scraping the barrel with these charges!
I know nothing about the guy, but this definitely looks like an organized hit job.
you mean let him off scott free?
Kansas River's closer.
That is exactly what went through my mind when I read it. And the timing...3 weeks before the primary and charges were publicly announced a half hour before the debates. I mean what better way to screw with someone’s mind than that?
Yeah, sounds like a chicken sh*t local DA needs to find a crime in the GOP ranks. Maybe I’m wrong but the headline caught my interest and the read-in quickly leads to no there-there.
Compared to BLM, Antifa, screeching democrats defiling monuments, going after a GOP guy for ‘wrong information’ or some such is an easy pick.
What’s the background on the DA?
Agree 100%
Agree 100%
Kansas River’s closer.
I defer to your geographic knowledge.
No need to waste gas on this perp.
Obviously, that law only applies to Republicans...
Good question. They were quick to point out that he’s a republican
