They keep citing scientific studies about masks but never source it. They make it up.
This from the guy who won’t mind quarantine until AIDS/HIV is cured... He should be ok holed up with his husband. It is sad that the same people calling for everyone to fall in line with guidelines scoffed at any calls for stopping the spread of AIDS for the past 40 years by changing the behavior of gay people. Not a chance of getting that community to stop voluntary behaviors that have killed millions of people all over the world.

We have a protocol that anything to bring in the house is thoroughly cleaned with Clorox wipes or 70% alcohol solution. The plastic trash bags are thrown in the trash before we even start that process. There is more to the process, but why bore you?

OK, so I don’t know your situation. Maybe you are in a high risk category and have some sort of underlying condition. Maybe you don’t. If you do, then good on you for being cautious. If you don’t, my question for you at this point is, are you going to go through all those steps the next time a really bad flu season rolls around? Or, have you done these steps during the last bad flu season? I ask because, even though they are different animals, side by side the numbers for the China virus, as far as infectiousness and morbidity go, are comparable to that of a really bad flu season.
Be that as it may, unless you lay out for a respirator, an N-95 mask, and proper PPE procedures (mask, gloves, eye pro, hand washing, changing masks frequently, etc) will provide somewhat reliable protection. Feel good measures like healthy people being forced to wear masks, cloth masks that provide zero protection against virusii, 6ft "social distancing" mandates, and the rest do nothing but provide people with a false sense of security. A sense of security that will cause people to die when, not if, something really deadly rolls around.
Add to all this the selective condemnation by politicians and so called health experts (riots OK, Trump rally BAD). The nonsensical shut down rules that favored big chain stores with deep pockets over mom and pop type stores. The continued pushing of a narrative that is not backed up by numbers. It all proves, at least to anyone with a critical mind, that this whole exercise is not about public health. It is about control and forced compliance.
of course it is political. and you nailed it. For the N 95 to do anything it has to be combined with a full face shield gown gloves and handwashing. iin addition the N95 must be fit tested and and changed after each use. When I pick up my N95 at the start of the shift I am asked 2 questions - style and size. I know the answer because I have had fit testing. without proper fit the mask is useless. The reusable cloth masks at the stores are worth less than nothing
Thank you for doing what you do. I spent 15 years working for a Lvl 1 trauma center in a medium size city. 10 of those years, I was tasked with supporting fit testing for anywhere from 4500 to 7000 people yearly. I learned WAY more about N-95 masks and PPE than I thought I ever would. That’s one of the reasons this bothers me so much. People are being lied to, for whatever reason, and they don’t care. The people lieing don’t care. When you try to educate someone in passing, they look at you like you are speaking Greek. All the while their nose is poking out over the top of a cloth mask that does nothing to protect them.
thank you for what you do. the thing that really don’t like is at the start of this i had to use a single n95 for 3 shifts and carry it around in a paper bag in between. Now we are down to a single mask for one shift. After the first time you use it and take it off I figure it is thoroughly contaminated inside and out and probably doing more harm than good.... I think the face shield is probably more helpful than the mask

if the cloth masks do nothing to protect anyone, what difference does it make if the nose is poking out above them...? I ask because someone ratted on me for that and I ended up in nasty spat that didn’t have to happen...
