Because the freedom permitting citizens to NOT wear masks created herd immunity.

East Tennessee mountain counties...no masks, currently no CV cases, no CV deaths. Herd immunity? Or just 'coincidence'?

I wear a mask when I go to a grocery store because the store requires it.

If the store did not require one, I likely would not wear one. I believe that is the choice I should have in that situation. Just like I would unhesitatingly wear one if the store required it or go somewhere else, I expect that behavior to be reciprocated.

If I felt like I needed to wear a mask, and psychologically needed others to wear a mask too so I could feel safe, I would only patronize establishments that required it, and I wouldn’t be hostile to those who didn’t wear masks.

Here is an analogy: Peanut allergies. Some years back, a woman freaked out and got angry at some other woman who allowed her child to eat a peanut butter cracker as the child sat in the shopping cart. She was angry because her own child had peanut allergies. My feeling was that if the lady’s child had an allergy, it was up to her to protect her child as it grew, and to train her child in how to protect itself out there in the world, not require the world to change to protect her child.

One caveat: I do wear a mask even when I don’t think it is necessary and may not be required: to mollify my wife, who has different views on this than I do. I do it to keep the peace in my immediate family, which I will do out of consideration for her. It is an emotional and psychological thing for her for reasons I am not at liberty to explain, but to comfort her, I wear it when she does.

What’s the point of wearing a mask standing at the podium?
Out in a social setting meet and greet, yes.

I laugh at seeing these reporters wearing masks on camera. Protecting the audience? Nope. Perception. ‘Me Too!’

I didn’t before this insanity began. Now? I stay away from crowds, and hospitals are crowds.
