The Allegheny County Health Department has extended its ban on indoor dining and drinking indoors at bars and restaurants in the county for two weeks to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
Announced Wednesday, the new order will last two weeks and prohibits any and all Indoor dining or alcohol consumption at bars, restaurants, or any other business establishments.
Outdoor dining may continue up until 11 p.m. daily, although customers will be limited to three alcoholic drinks per visit and everyone must be seated at a table. The states expanded mask order from Pa. Health Department Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine, which requires a face-covering unless one is eating, drinking, or has a medical- or work-related reason not to wear one, will be in effect, as well.
Restaurants and bars in the county can continue takeout and delivery sales as normal and after 11 p.m.
Allegheny County has seen a consistent spike in new coronavirus cases for a few weeks, including 230 new cases as of 12:01 a.m. on July 8. The upward trend -- four straight days of more than 200 news cases, according to The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette -- has continued despite local officials there deciding to recently end in-restaurant alcohol consumption in hopes of slowing the spread of COVID-19.
The PPG also reports that nearby Butler County set a new single-day record Wednesday at 20. While that number seems low, the county has had just 390 total since March. Media reports indicated that either Levine or Gov. Tom Wolf might step in and issue additional orders that would lead to closures in counties without their own health department near Allegheny County, but that has not happened as of 6:15 p.m. Wednesday.
Indoor dining is allowed in the green phase of Wolfs coronavirus reopening plan, but Allegheny County decided to put that restriction back in place on July 3. This new order extends that one, which was set to expire this Friday.
It was not immediately clear if Pittsburghs Rivers Casino would be allowed to reopen after it too was shuttered last week, but if it does, smoking will be prohibited as it is temporarily not allowed in any Pa. casino by order of the states Gaming Control Board.
County Health Departments can issue orders which exceed those enacted by the State but cannot relax State-issued edicts.
Today's restrictions were NOT enacted by Governor Wolf and PA DOH Secretary Dr. Levine.

Your Honor, I misread the sign. I thought it was a 3 drink MINIMUM.
Does IC Light qualify as a drink?

Faucist Much?
Me too. Actually, I’m swilling Tonic Water, which has quinine in it, adding quinine extract drops. Quinine helps strengthen the immune system. Spoke with my doc, he says yes, do it.
So drink A LOT of gin and tonic for your health’s sake.
I call Pennsylvania the land of orange highway barrels
Hmmm, two weeks... two weeks... Sounds so familiar. Where have I heard that before?
Oh, yeah, from all of these jerks every two weeks for the last four months.
Suckers.
Does a 4th drink cause Covid?
Five bucks for a cold case of returnables in the late ‘70s. Cheapest bullpiss in town... :)
Allegheny county has had about 180 deaths. About 150 of them have been in nursing homes and about 12 have been in people under 50. There is no justification for this lunacy. None
