Texas has once again broken its single-day record for new coronavirus cases. The state reported 10,028 new cases Tuesday as officials warned that hospitals are reaching capacity.

The previous daily record was 8,260 new cases on July 4. There are now more than 200,000 cases across the state, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services. The state also set a new record for single-day deaths, with 60.

Re: “Surge is coming from south of the Border.”

The Center for Immigration Studies (CIS.org) has written about that several times in the last two weeks.

Unfortunately, their data and evidence is mostly anecdotal.

The Texas statistics do not show patient immigration status, so there is really no way to prove that this surge is mostly Mexicans coming North for better treatment.

Yep, just like you magically cannot get it from walking in a crowded protest march where few if any people have the mask on correctly the entire time. Plus no restroom breaks for washing your hands, plus touching your face to wipe off the sweat or adjust the mask frequently, all of which are not part of handling it correctly. A mask not handled properly can be just as bad, or even worse, than no mask on at all.

I only see that it says “cough” is a symptom...on pg 21 of that pdf...Diamond &Silks video, however seems to indicate a “cough” makes you a “Probable” case

There are many reports that almost all of the new positive tests are people who are asymptomatic. They are not getting tested because they have symptoms. There is a push to test as many people as possible, to keep up the positive test results.

The old media desperately wants a hospital, just one hospital in America, where they can take pictures of people on gurneys dying in the halls.

Absent that, they will make stuff up and distort it until the public believes that is happening.

San Antonio/Bexar County officials are in full panic mode, saying we’re down to 12% capacity in hospitals. They conveniently forget that they spent a wad of money getting Freeman Coliseum ready to take overflow, with hundreds of beds available, and they haven’t even opened it to patients yet BECAUSE THERE’S NO NEED.

Re: “COVID-19 does badly injure young people, and on occasion kills them.”

I agree.

But seasonal influenza and common colds also kill hundreds and disable thousands of completely healthy Americans each year.

Do you really want to shut down the USA for six months every year to protect them?

Sorry - that is insane, that is deliberate economic suicide to protect a tiny fraction of one percent of our population.

I made no comment on whether or not I agree with the shutdowns. I was responding to the poster’s statement that the worst that can happen is a bit of flu.

Independence Day weekend. I expected this. There was a spike after Memorial Day weekend as well.

And weird the cases are going up after ‘mandatory masking’. It’s almost as if that has no effect.

They don't.

“The Texas statistics do not show patient immigration status, so there is really no way to prove that this surge is mostly Mexicans coming North for better treatment.”

It - the Covid surge - may not show up on immigration logs, because it can be Green Card holders with families in Mexico, where they went to visit (Mexico had a surge in June) and then, after getting an infection in Mexico legally returned to Texas.

I look at The Texas Medical Center Covid 19 dashboard website.
It has lots of interesting information on it.
& day trends for positive test went from 16% during the week of 6/22-6/28 to 11.3% so far for this week.

7 day new hospitalizations have dropped two days in a row.
Positive daily growth trend had been dropping since 6/27/20, but it did have a bump up yesterday.
Phase 1 ICU beds are full (1330 beds in total) 615 are Covid cases.
Phase 2 ICU beds are 373, 34 out of 373 are being used, 12 of which are Covid.
11157 people have been hospitalized, these numbers exclude PUIs, 2204 are currently hospitalized, 8219 have been discharged, 734 had passed away.
This is just for the greater Houston area.

Hopitals in TX are maxing out. Since June 1, hosptializations have increased 400%. Houston, San Antonio and Austin have been prepping their coliseums for hospital overflow. Along the border, they're pitching tents and looking to use hotels and portable school buildings.

Houston has requested refrigerator trucks from Georgia. I know that directly from a friend who's company was contacted.

Nurses are being sent in from out of state. Private clinic nurses (including my neighbor) has been pulled off their regular jobs to be trained for CV at hospitals.

A nearby hospital has moved it's labor and delivery to another hospital to make rooms for the virus.

McAllen, TX pharmacies haven't been able to get oxygen concentrators for 2 months. Hundreds of their customers needing oxygen are out of luck. <

In my county, we didn't have any deaths from CV until after the state reopened.

or D. The antibodies don’t last very long, meaning even a vaccine would be of limited value.

You're right I miss read the fine print that says,
"If the individual answers yes to fever question(Fever above 100.4F?), they will be sent home and will be required to submit a physician’s note stating they are clear of COVID-19 symptoms before being allowed to return to work. If no fever is present but answered yes to cough or shortness of breath, the individual should be aware of potentially developing a fever.

*If the individual answers yes to being in close contact with anyone who tested positive for COVID-19, they will be sent home for a period of time, which will be determined by the supervisor. If the employee develops symptoms while off work, it is imperative they contact their supervisor and keep them informed. The employee will be able to return to work by providing a physician’s note stating they are clear of any COVID-19 symptoms. If the employee did not develop symptoms while off work, then a physician’s note is not required.

Given these tests are positive or negative test. The person that had close contact is treated as positive until they're cleared by a doctor.

said, "Austin have been prepping their coliseums for hospital overflow"

Are they setting up tents or are they sending the sick to nursing homes? While they wait for these patients that will never show up

Nope nope nope. They are counting every hospitalization for ANYTHING car accident, heart, cancer as a new
COVID case if they test positive for COVID. Heard this from doctors, nurses, even a Texas state health authority. It’s all a scam to get money for the hospitals.
