Police are investigating an act of vandalism, after a statue of Frederick Douglass was removed from its base at Maplewood Park during the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Leaders from Re-energize the legacy of Frederick Douglass are shocked a monument they worked so hard on will have to be replaced. This is all that is left at this particularly moment of a monument that we put so much work and thought and love and care into, said Carvin Eison, Project director, re-energize the legacy of Frederick Douglass, Frederick Douglass Bicentennial Commemoration.

Cuts both ways.
Somebody thought the guy was “too white”. ;-)
Well, well...wonder why that happened. That’s wrong too.
They can topple over this monument, they could go topple over all of them, this monument will still stand because the ideas behind it are bigger than the monument, said Eison.
Finally, a sensible statement from someone with skin in the game.
yup- i don’t agree with it but too bad.
I tried to write a response, but I’m just left without any more words.

I think even Frederick Douglass, knew the winds were changing. When W.E.B. DuBois returned to Ghana, there were definitely diffrent values in the people of darker skin pigment. One group, embittered, and one who graciously could forgive and move on. I always ‘liked’ the guy, Frederick. He didn’t FEEL Free until he paid BACK the money to the plantation owner, the amount that was spent when he was acquired on the auction block. REVERSE of reparations.
More likely morons with no sense of history didnt realize that he was an African-American civil rights leader and assumed given the era he mustve been an old white racist
I predicted this a couple of weeks ago, because none of those idiots have any idea who Frederick Douglass was. In their tiny little walnut brain, if it’s a statue, he must have been a slave owner.
Upstate bump
Well, there is a lot to like about Frederick Douglass, IMO.
I didn’t agree with everything that came out of his mouth, but I admired the fact that he thought for himself and wasn’t afraid to change his stance on something as the facts (or his perception of the facts) changed.
A lot of us have difficulty doing that.

Of course they tore down Frederick Douglass’s statue. He was a Black Republican, he loved America, and he supported President Lincoln.
"No monument left alone."
Or, "Only Lenin statues stand unmarked."
These idiots want to erase all history. That is socialism.
I call it first: White Supremacists did it.
