Patrick J. Buchanan: Are uncivil protests and mob violence winning?
Union Leader ^ | July 4 2020 | Patrick J Buchanan

Posted on 07/04/2020 10:30:13 PM PDT by rintintin

THE SEATTLE COMMUNE is no more.

Declared three weeks ago by radical leftists as CHAZ, the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone, rechristened CHOP, the Capitol Hill Occupation Protest, the six-block enclave inside Seattle ceased to exist July 1. The cops shut it down.

As Marx said, history repeats itself, first as tragedy then as farce.

If the Paris Commune of 1871 is the archetype, that mass uprising and swift slaughter of the communards who rose against the regime, what happened in Seattle is the farce.

Police Chief Carmen Best, who opposed Mayor Jenny Durkan’s surrender of one of her precinct stations to the mob, explained in exasperation why her cops finally acted:

“Enough is enough. The CHOP (had) become lawless and brutal. Four shootings — two fatal — robberies, assaults, violence and countless property crimes have occurred in this several block area.”

The shooting death of a 16-year-old and critical wounding of a 14-year-old on Monday finally forced the mayor’s hand.

Some journalists touring the CHOP had burbled on like Lincoln Steffens on his first trip to Lenin’s Russia, “I have been over into the future and it works!”

They wrote of “peaceful” meetings, “documentary screenings” and “concerts.” Best was more hardheaded about what she found after recapturing the CHOP: “After walking through the area I was stunned by the amount of graffiti, garbage, and property destruction.”

Apparently, however, Mayor Durkan does not want posterity to forget the glory days of what she had predicted would be a “summer of love.”

Writes The Washington Post:

“Durkan called for charges to be dismissed against those who were arrested for alleged misdemeanors ... The mayor also said that Seattle arts and parks departments would preserve a community garden and artwork and murals that protesters created within the zone.”

Hard to believe. ...

Dagnammit — it’s not the idiots in the streets — it’s the corporate Marxism that’s facilitating if not directing the assault.

I’m reminded of the 60’s. Hippies
living in communes amid filth and
flies, stoned out of their gourds.
History is impossible to erase for
those who lived it. I thank god
every day that I had parents who
truly cared. I stand ready to
defend that value.

What ended it wasn't the execution of a 16 year old black boy, it was when they showed up outside the mayor's house with their demands.

Fifty-eight businesses from inside the CHOP, last I looked, had filed a class action lawsuit against the city of Seattle. I'm not sure how many of the 500 private residences inside the CHOP have done the same.. the victims of the rapes, thefts, mafia-style shakedowns, let alone the murders weren't enough to motivate lawmakers... no... it's when they themselves are personally inconvenienced by the lawlessness.

I remember once, back in the mid 80’s when my father and I shared an apartment in the D.C. ‘burbs, Buchanan called on our home number, looking for Dad. Dad was about to interview him on his radio show. Very polite man. Back in those days, I thought he was a ‘clock’s right-twice-a-day Paleo-Con’. In the last decade or so, I find how much more and more I agree with his POV now.

Hollow boast. Just wait.. their gonna go too far... THEN!!

Selling baby parts, taking over and destroying police stations, multi tiered justice, a coup d’état. Need more?

Same thing happened in the 60’s. The country woke up in 1968. Will it happen again? I’m not optimistic. The anarchists seem to be taking over this time.

It is obvious they are winning. No one except a few scattered civilians & occasionally police and occasionally Federal law enforcement are standing up to them. They are walking all over law enforcement: local, State & Federal; since LEOs are not supported by politicians. They are blocking interstates, roads to national parks & assaulting civilians in the Federal District of Columbia. They are using threats of violence across the country, still, to get their way.

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, penned a similar thought during the days of the Stalinist “mobs”...

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?… The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin’s thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! If…if…We didn’t love freedom enough.

And even more – we had no awareness of the real situation…. We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward.”

Yes, I agree. Maybe the giant is showing signs of stirring from his slumber. Tell me again, how it ended, the last time someone awakened the sleeping giant. 😁
