Minnesota Madness
City Journal ^ | 3 July2020 | Scott W Johnson

The failure of the state’s leadership means recovery is a long way off in Minneapolis.

On May 25, George Floyd died in the custody of four Minneapolis police officers. What followed was a terroristic crime spree in the Twin Cities. As the Star Tribune reported, the damage extended to 1,500 businesses and buildings in Minneapolis and St. Paul. Estimates place the damage at $500 million.

This crime wave was largely inspired by the abandonment of the Minneapolis Police Department’s Third Precinct headquarters, and its subsequent burning, on the evening of May 28. This unparalleled act of political irresponsibility is attributable to Minneapolis mayor Jacob Frey, who declared at a hastily called press conference that he had “made the decision to evacuate the building” because to preserve the city’s claim on it could mean endangering the lives of the people who were trying violently to capture it. As Frey explained: “The symbolism of a building cannot outweigh the importance of life.” The morning after the Third Precinct’s burning, Minnesota governor Tim Walz criticized Frey for abandoning the building. Though warned of the evacuation, Walz professed himself “not comfortable” with the decision, which was an open secret throughout the neighborhood.

Hundreds, if not thousands, of people participated in the criminality, but, so far, only a few perpetrators have been charged, with the U.S. Attorney for the District of Minnesota bringing arson cases against a dozen or so defendants to date. Meantime, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives has led the investigation of 150 arsons throughout the Twin Cities that occurred the week after Floyd’s death. Though there was initial chatter that the perpetrators of the mayhem were outside agitators, the defendants charged in the crime spree are mostly homegrown Minnesotans. At least one perpetrator was out on probation...

And the governor is making noises about appealing to Washington for help in rebuilding!

Anyone with any sense and the wherewithal should leave Minneapolis ASAP.

I’m just a few miles west of Minneapolistan. I went to the local news facebook page so I could read the comments on the story about federal aid for the damage caused by rioters.

Most are very much against any federal money going to rebuild that dump. Refreshing to read.

The democrat controlled media deliberate miss portraying the six foot seven inch 200 plus pound Floyd as an innocent black who was being forceably restrained because he was black not because he was resisting arrest. When He was legitimately arrested for passing a counterfeit $20 dollar bill he was resisting arrest and was a threat if not secured. But the media was not mentioning his size or reporting that Floyd was removed from a squad car because he was acting up under the influence of drugs and also later was discovered to have COVID 19. Which suggests his physical condition may have led to his death which the media turned into a murder change and a charge of serious abuse by police because of police efforts that were tried to get him who under control. If Obama had urged blacks to believe in the justice system and comply with the police would we be confronting his use of creating racial division now ?
The results of politically induced miss reporting incidents where blacks have resisted legitimate arrest began to be used earlier during and after the post Zimmmerman trial, then on to the Ferguson episode. Obama’s abuse of the “Bully Pulpit” which seemed to promote resistance to legitimate arrest led to black gangs attacking non blacks found innocently traversing black neighborhoods and to a score of murders or life changing injuries and later attacks of theft and vandalism on local businesses as well as attacks and murders of police officers during that period

Problem is their disastrous numbers for unemployment, etc. don’t just show up in city and state reports.

They show up in Fed reports and Trump gets blamed

Voters don’t take 15 hours to analyze the jobs report and see what happened where. They just see one number.

Thank God it’s turned out so much better than anyone could have imagined.

Let’s pray it keeps going that way in spite of dem cities

And NY and NYC are just STARTING to open. Millions of jobs will be added this month. Our death rate is in single digits now.

” I’m just a few miles west of Minneapolistan”
Wayzata?
It’s amazing how conservative it gets just a few minutes out of town.

Some day, I’ll move back to rural Minnesota where I grew up.

Why didn't they burn or occupy PP?

I just returned from the iron range in MN. More than a few Trump signs and banners, in a traditionally strong democrat area. I was impressed!

Need to rake the rats over the coals on their pussified abandonment that skyrocketed the arson, looting, and mob damage. Repeat over and over and get pubs on board with ads in their districts.

Make the rich black lives matter foot the bill. They and antifa did the damage.

The media portayed the incident as Martin was an innocent black youth murdered in cold blood because he was black and the guard as a white hispanic guarding an exclusive white “gated”community .

Obama used the incident to declare Martin was a victim of whites who could have been; First his son, then Obama himself.

When that inflammatory defense was picked by black gangs also wound up and was used as an excuse to commit a score of racial assaults ending in deaths and serious injuries.

All the while this was happening in various areas of the country Such as the murder of an Austrailian visitor from Melbourne Christopher Lane killed while exercizing on a Duncan Oklahoma street by members of the black gang known as the Crypts.Such assaults were described by the press as “black youths with nothing better to do” although there were some that were “for Trayvon” but met by stony silence from the democrats or denial from MSM because it was dismissed as a Obama miss-speak. As if he didn’t rely on a teleprompter for carefully prepared text checked out by or have advisers giving him the facts.
