The nation’s top infectious disease experts on Tuesday slammed airlines planning full flights as the coronavirus continues to spread throughout the country.
Several US airlines have stated they’re limiting capacity on planes to between 60 and 67 percent.
But, United Airlines has not promised to leave seats empty, and American announced last week that it will drop such measures and begin filling its flights to the brim beginning Wednesday as companies try to increase revenue.
“Obviously that is something that is of concern. I’m not sure what went into that decision making,” Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told a Senate panel.
“I think in the confines of an airplane that becomes even more problematic,” he added.
Dr. Robert Redfield, director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, joined Fauci in expressing “substantial disappointment” in the company’s decision.
“I can say this is under critical review by us at CDC. We don’t think it’s the right message,” Redfield added.

How ‘bout we let the marketplace decide, Fauci? If UAL wants to run full planes while their competitors offer 1/2 or 2/3-full planes, let the customer decide which he prefers. Free market economics... a beautiful thing.
Fauci is “not sure what went into that decision-making.”
Here’s a reason: “The airlines cannot stay in business unless they can make a profit.”
An airline cannot be a personal jet fleet for a handful of passengers.
These jet airliners cost hundreds of millions of dollars to buy and a fortune to service and staff an experienced crew. Fuel costs on each flight are enormous. Airlines pay big money for landing rights and terminal gate access.
No airline profits equal no worldwide airline travel.

The Atlantic, May 21, has the story, headlined, “How could the CDC make that mistake?”
I’ll give you the key quotes, and then comment on the stark inference The Atlantic somehow failed to grasp:
“We’ve learned that the CDC is making, at best, a debilitating mistake: combining test results that diagnose current coronavirus infections with test results that measure whether someone has ever had the virus…The agency confirmed to The Atlantic on Wednesday that it is mixing the results of viral [PCR] and antibody tests, even though the two tests reveal different information and are used for different reasons.”
“Several states—including Pennsylvania, the site of one of the country’s largest outbreaks,
well as Texas, Georgia, and Vermont—are blending the data in the same way. Virginia likewise mixed viral and antibody test results until last week, but it reversed course and the governor apologized for the practice after it was covered by the Richmond Times-Dispatch and The Atlantic. Maine similarly separated its data on Wednesday; Vermont authorities claimed they didn’t even know they were doing this.”

What an oddly not connected thing to say. It's either dangerous or not. it has nothing to do with 'a message'.
But this entire apocalypse film has been only based on a true story, and when it's only a story - a harrowing narrative, then it's not about whether people on the plane will spread or not spread the cold I mean covid, it's about 'message'.

I have a flight to Las Vegas booked for next week. One of the smaller commuter planes. I’m sure it will be sold out....and I will have to wear a mask.
