ROVO, Utah Demonstrations in downtown Provo on Monday boiled over into an incident that is now under investigation, police said.
Authorities responded to a report of shots fired when pro-police demonstrators arrived at a protest calling for justice in the deaths of Bernardo Placios-Carbajal, George Floyd and others.
At one point, protesters began to block an SUV at an intersection. The vehicle then reported revved its engine and drove forward. One protester said she was struck.
At the same time, two pops were heard, which police said they are now investigating as possible gunshots.
It began as a fairly routine protest, but tensions began to rise with the arrival of the pro-police demonstrators. At one point, a pickup with pro-police protesters could be seen moving in close to the crowd.
The situation continued to escalate as as the protesters chanting Black Lives Matter and calling for justice began blocking intersections. After one interaction where a car was able to move through, a second interaction with the SUV was far more intense.
Provo police said they are investigating that incident as well as the pops that could be heard during the interaction.
An enhanced video taken by KSL TV photographers of the scene appears to show a masked man raising his hands and pointing something that looks like a gun. The video also captured something that resembled a casing coming off the object the man pointed. However, it will be up to investigators to determine if it was indeed a weapon.

Must be white supremacists at it again.
If the protesters stay in the crosswalks, they have some degree of legal protection; If they are in the middle of a street, they are jaywalking, which can be a civil or criminal offense depending on the jurisdiction.
If you run in front of a car, you probably are out of luck.
If you are in an approved demonstration that requested and got authority to block roads, the police should have used official markers to block roads, and drivers have no right to use those roads.
I’ve thought about getting a camera for my car, so if I get into a situation like this, I have clear video evidence of whether someone was outside a crosswalk, and whether they ran in front of my car, proving I did not drive toward them.
These idiot reporters should understand words have meaning. Shots are not fired at protests. Shots are fired at RIOTS. I never heard of a peaceful mob protest.
Mostly peaceful..................
The station’s cameras caught what appears to be something being pointed at the vehicle which might have caused the sounds. It’s at the end of the report.
So sorry the attempted unlawful imprisonment failed because the victim didn’t stay where they were...NOT. You do not have my permission to hold me hostage to your dogma.
Went through that in the LA riots, never not pushing the pedal to the metal if I ever get in another situation like that again.
I’ve had a dash camera for my car since they became affordable for consumers and a motorcycle helmet camera for years before then. Even without the current idiotfests we’re having, it’s long since gotten to the point where it’s needed just for daily liability reasons.
Strongly recommend a good dash camera to anyone who does not want to be hung out to dry by the police and insurance companies in the first place.
I’m looking into vehicle mounted tear gas dispensers for that very reason.
Ive thought about getting a camera for my car,
The local news is burying this as deep as they can.
SHOTS WERE FIRED - BY THE “PROTESTERS”
It’s on multiple videos, some black clad punk right next to the passenger’s window.
And the Provo cops did do a f***** thing.
Goodbye, Utah. It’s gone full SJW.
I would like to thank BLM, however.
I found that 9mm I thought I lost in a lake.
Utah, eh?
Must’ve been Mitt, firing into the air to rally his Never-Trump brigade...
How long until they demand Brigham Young University changes its’ name?
Practice J-turns to get out of the situation faster than a U-turn.
Are there any black people in Provo?
I’ve been there and don’t recall anyone black
“the protesters ... began blocking intersections”
Ok, so they were rioters, not protesters, and they instigated the illegality and violence. Case dismissed, next.
Yep, I refuse to be the next Reginald Denny.
