TUCSON, Ariz. — Gov. Doug Ducey announced new measures to control the spread of COVID-19 in Arizona at a news conference Monday afternoon.

First, the governor said bars, gyms, indoor movie theaters, water parks and tubing in Arizona would be forced to close for 30 days. Pools will be allowed to remain open, but can allow 10 people at a time, Ducey said.

The executive order goes into effect at 8 p.m. Monday.

Very low mask/etc compliance in my rural Va area. Very low case numbers too.
“Social distancing” is best a local determination.
Here, only those with at-risk household members take precautions.

In cities, reason may dictate stronger preventive measures though.

Well, yes — most of our counties have very low numbers, except in actual prisons. One county has no cases.

It is weird looking at our case count per population by county — most of the big one are small counties, I assume with either prisons or meat packing plants. Then there is Manassas City, which has a large hispanic population that never really got around to social distancing, they’ve been out playing soccer and gathering in the parking lots outside of eateries and mobile taco stands (which have really good tacos).

The state is going door-to-door trying to get a sense of what the problem is, and how to teach them to wash hands, wear masks, and social distance. Unfortunately, a lot of them are multi-generational families, sometimes multiple in a house, and so they have experienced a good bit of death among their older population.

My county (including the 2 cities we surround) has 3 of the worst zip codes in the state, all minority populations cramped in housing complexes and apartment complexes.

But the rest of us are seeing very low case counts. I do know one person who had the virus.

I think it's to prevent an emergency where a lifeguard may have to perform mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

It would be the same logic that's limiting beach-goers to wading at the water's edge.

Neighboring Dickenson County finally got it’s first case.

I wonder though if we’ve seen the effects of the virus or haven’t yet.

Gawd, here in my part of Alabama, they’re selling them by the boxful at the checkouts of all the convenience stores. Some are even cloth, with vanity prints on them. I, *ahem* bought one with a gaping shark’s mouth on it.

This is EXACTLY what the Rats are up to: announce shutdowns lasting until the end of the year, this is the Rats’ Hail Mary attempt to defeat Trump in November.

This thread is about Ducey, a Republican governor; why would he be doing this?

Forget about the political leaders; I think there is a very real concern among employers about lawsuits. They can either force people back into the office and deal with the possibility of a new case shutting the place down for two weeks or they can forget all of that and simply have everyone work at home who can. (Once you're out of the office, you're off HR's radar; nobody cares if you wear a mask or not at your home office.)

I drove through rural Virginia last week, and although I saw signs stating required masks, I didn’t get any comments, and many fellow customers were also mask free.

This has been my experience across the country for the past month.

I did detour to avoid Chicago and Minneapolis though, as I loath both, and didn’t want to risk a scene while making a purchase. I avoid them both during normal time, no reason to see them now and I don’t have to share my money with them.

What is a Wineburgers ?

Harvey's Wineburgers is a bar and grill off of Camelback & 16th Street in Phoenix.

Wineburgers weren't invented in Phoenix, or even Arizona, but they caught on enough that there are still a few places that have them. Wine is splattered on the burger while it's cooking on the grill. Not a whole lot, just enough to give it some nice seasoning. Harvey's has excellent home made style burgers at a reasonable price in an expensive part of town (Biltmore section is nearby). Inexpensive beer and martinis as well. It is a dark hole in the wall that is true "mid-century", niot the "retro version" you see around here a lot. Harvey's is a great place to have a relaxed lunch or dinner.

I wasn’t accusing Ducey as being part of the Rat plot. I was merely pointing out that Rat-infested DC is going to fall in line keeping everything in shutdown mode through the end of the year.

I live in Arizona. The schools won’t open until August 17th and Ducey just re-shut down bars, gyms, and water parks.

This is his last term as governor and I have heard he wants to run for US Senator.

He is not getting MY vote. I am also vote against the entire Maricopa County Board regardless of anything they might have done good in the past, for putting the muzzle ordinance on the whole durn county, including Cave Creek and Queens Creek, that wanted no part of it.

That is not true. A positive means you have it now!!!!

There's different types of tests. If you get the right antibody test (blood work, not swabs), it will tell you have already had it.

Yes, Ducey shut down tubing the Salt River, a really fun OUTDOOR FRESH AIR recreational activity. Unbelievable.

I’ve got a Trump 2020 mask that I can breathe thru like it wasn’t there. To date I’ve only needed it once. But at least I can trigger the obnoxious Mask Nazis.
