According to the performance demonstration video, the coilguns use bullets stored in reloadable magazines just like a conventional gun, and they also handle like one. The coilguns can easily penetrate multiple wood plates and thin steel plates at a relatively close distance. Crap gun. The penetration of an air rifle. Regular rounds perform much better.

Ever take one of those Crosman pump pistols - the ones they say to only pump ten times - and give it about 20 with a .17 cal pellet in it? If I'd gotten caught for all the damage I did with one as a teen, I'd still be paying restitution. They were a menace and potentially deadly. Windshields were a specialty.

Air rifles dont penetrate steel plate. On the other hand, if a real, practical arm, this would be just the first generation and subject to mass improvement. It would also mean that a trooper could carry more rounds for the same weight of load. Big if, though.
