Austin and Houston are separated by dozens of miles. It’s good that they’re making preparations. Better to have too many beds than too few. But I recall having read that Houston did something similar previously and then dismantled it, when new cases nosedived. It may do it again this time around. I suspect, however, that the numbers will be far fewer in this round. The reason being that many of the infected are likely to be young demonstrators, most of whom will have fewer problems than the aged. Also, in the previous cycle, people waited until they were at death’s door to be tested. Today, people with sniffles or a scratchy throat are shuffling forward to be looked at.

[I know someone whose co-worker just died from Covid at 32 years old. Its really bad.]

Nope, and his mother went over right away after he went home from work not feeling on Friday. Both were in the ICU by Wednesday.

Sorry to hear that. Were they religious about wearing masks or did they pretty much ignore that particular suggestion?
I know of a couple of people in their 40’s and 50’s who tested positive and survived it. The 40+-year-old said it was a real bear - made him so weak he had problems with the stairs. The symptoms were far milder for the 50+ individual. Both were seriously fit outdoorsy types.

They are supposed to wear masks in close confinement, but I’m not sure how much he did or didn’t honestly.

Have you contacted Abbott? If not, do so and your State Rep. He needs to know he is being played for a fool!
To: Monty22002
Baloney! This is a virus and we have to deal with it, not hide from it. If someone died from at 32 years old, he had some precondition.
To: Monty22002
Yea, right! If that is true, he represents a very rare case. If you want to hide, do so. The economy has to start up.

“Weve stopped the transmission of Covid-19 in our hospitals by wearing masks”
NOT the masks people are being encouraged / required to wear in public! The nurses I know wouldn’t think about working with infectious patients in close contact without REAL masks - and goggles, and frequent changes of disposable gloves!

But they are getting up close and personal with major biohazards, not just on a chance basis, but with 100% minute-to-minute regularity. The average grocery store visit or even work environment isn’t fraught with danger like that. It’s the difference between NASCAR drivers having roll cages and 5 point belts vs daily commuters and their workaday cars that settle for 3 point belts.

Well at least people got over the ‘don’t tell me what to do’ when it came to seat belts. Took awhile though. The masses are asses.

Completely true. Where I live, I can generally maintain 10’ of separation. 6 feet is just considered basic manners.
Equally important: The virus doesn’t spread by people who do not cough, sneeze or scream. If you walk thru a store breathing thru your nose, someone would have to climb in your cart and stay there for 30 minutes to have any risk at all, even if you are otherwise contagious!
The virus doesn’t have wings. It cannot fly from person to person. It isn’t a rubber ball that bounces off the ground, either. All of this fear mongering can be defeated by Joe Biden, though: If he is elected, on the following day, the media will drop their entire coverage of this stupid virus!
I’m so sick of these panic monsters, particularly in the GOP!

Well, unless you’re a NY/DC based “reporter”.
