Modern Slavery and Woke Hypocrisy
Gatestone Institute ^ | June 27, 2020 | Judith Bergman

There are an estimated 136,000 people living in modern slavery just in Britain. Slavery in the UK takes the form of forced labor, and domestic and sexual exploitation. Albanians and Vietnamese are among the groups that constitute the majority of slaves. — Global Slavery Index, 2018.

There are currently an estimated 9.2 million black slaves in Africa. Slavery, according to the index, includes forced labor, forced sexual exploitation and forced marriage. — Global Slavery Index, 2018.

"According to the U.N.'s International Labor Organization (ILO), there are more than three times as many people in forced servitude today as were captured and sold during the 350-year span of the transatlantic slave trade" - Time Magazine March 14, 2019.

Modern slavery earns criminal networks an estimated $150 billion a year, just slightly less than drug smuggling and weapons trafficking.

"G-20 countries import some $354 billion worth of products at risk of being produced by modern slavery every year". — Global Slavery Index, 2018.

The news has been filled with reports about Black Lives Matter (BLM) supporters vandalizing and tearing down statues of slave traders, slave owners, and anyone who they perceive as having been historically involved with slavery.

In Bristol, England, a statue of the slave trader Edward Colston was pulled down and thrown into the harbor. In Belgium, statues of King Leopold were defaced.

The actions have caused some local authorities to consider whether all statues perceived as offending current sensibilities should be removed.

The London Mayor Sadiq Khan announced a commission to examine the future of landmarks, such as statues and street names, in the UK capital.

What is not apparent is how attacking old statues of people who have been long dead is supposed to help anyone, especially millions of black and non-black people, who are still enslaved today...

"While Black Lives Matter (BLM) and its sycophants endlessly debate changing the names of streets and removing statues, they ignore the staggering 40 million victims of actual slavery in the world today, including an estimated 9.2 million men, women and children currently enslaved in Africa."

Yes this is a fact. The black race is the most guilty of slavery throughout history.

But BLM is not about race , it is about supplementing the COVID hoax to attempt an overthrow of the capitalist system

The whole thing is a charade. Nobody at the top of these organizations gives a damn about black people or slavery

they are fidnign out that white slaves may have been more numerous than black slaves- The left downplay this in their desperate attempt to keep the blm movement front and center by claiming many white slaves were ‘just indentured servants’ but this is a lie- the majority of them were truly slaves- and children born to these slaves were kept as slaves too- which is NOT a practice of ‘indentured servanthood’

and these folks, many of them Christians and Irish, were cheap to buy so their lives meant nothing- they could e very cheaply replaced- and they were treated like crap as a result- they were brutalized, worked to death, tortured, beaten- and never had a chance to be free- they lived their lives as slaves-

Black nations bought white slaves by the multitudes-

I wish these activists would turn attention to modern day slavery.

There have been reports of slavery in America. I’ve heard a few cases in which some foreign born residents of America, brought over household help from the old country with them, and they are slaves in such households.

Then there’s the human trafficking operations going on, in America and other countries, which traffic in prostitution.

If people are truly concerned about slavery, let’s fight slavery where it still exists today.

And why is it, that America never gets any credit for ending slavery? These idiot activists want to talk about the legacy of slavery and all those related issues, but, in so doing, never seem to be happy that we officially ended slavery.

America did not end slavery. Progressives are so indignant about slavery. Their self-righteousness is unsurpassed. The scour the history books to find people to condemn. They have not looked in the mirror. Progressives are directly responsible for policies enforcing slavery. Freed slave are still alive today. They have attempted to get compensation and were denied. Progressives not only praised the Soviet gulag but instituted Western slavery policies in the Morgenthau Plan and the Yalta Agreement.

The Ottoman Empire, through conquest and their Barbary pirates, enslaved over a million Europeans. Sir Samuel Baker, the explorer, bought a fourteen year-old female slave of Hungarian origin in Ottoman occupied Bulgaria whom he later married. Because of her history, Queen Victoria refused her attendance at court.
