Supreme Court permits fast-track removal of asylum seekers

The Supreme Court handed the Trump administration a win on Thursday by ruling that asylum seekers have no right to a federal court hearing before being removed from the U.S.

The 7-2 decision allows the administration to fast-track the removal process, and could affect thousands of immigrants.

The majority opinion was written by conservative Justice Samuel Alito, who was joined by all but two of the court’s more liberal justices, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan, who dissented.

A 7-2 decision is almost unheard of recently. Every liberal judge, and sometimes a conservative one, seems to find a way to bypass what the constitution says.

You are right, but what numbers other then 6, 25, 20! As much as ChiefPOS Robert's tries to say the Court is not political it is. But it is also driven by a concern of how these Justices will be viewed historically. Bader has made a couple of decisions lately that seem odd for her. She is probably more aware then ever that she will soon be an asterisk in legal books and is thinking about her place in history. Nobody wants to be remembered for just being the oldest unless you are running marathons.

Of course the ‘Wide Latina’ would not vote for this despite the basis in law.

I have been saying for years that just because there is a despot in charge of the country an ‘asylum seeker’ hails from, does not give you a free ticket into the USA. A true ‘asylum seeker’ should need to prove that (s)he is in mortal danger by remaining in whatever $4!thole you came from. I guarantee that the ‘despot’ has no idea or has ever had any contact with 99.999% of the human detritus crawling over our borders.
