The coronavirus pandemic could spell the end of Chuck E. Cheese. The popular kid’s restaurant had to close its 610 locations nationwide during the outbreak. Now, $1 billion in debt has Chuck E. Cheese’s parent company, CEC Entertainment, approaching bankruptcy.
The Wall Street Journal reports that CEC is asking lenders for a $200 million to keep its business going. For comparison, the news is similar to the recent circumstances that led to the retail band JC Penney filing bankruptcy last month.
CEC has also offered its top executives retention bonuses to try and keep them from leaving, including $3 million to three of its executives, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The news comes after CEC admitted in April it was considering refinancing, restructuring, or even bankruptcy following the coronavirus pandemic given how much the restaurant industry has struggled. This after Chuck E. Cheese laid off 17,000 employees in March.
Chuck E. Cheese’s website currently lists three locations in the Cleveland area, including one in Parma, one in North Olmsted and one in Mayfield Heights.

I forgot to add this. They had one thing I liked. They had a pit of plastic balls one could play in and literally bury themselves in. My son loved this and insisted I play with him in the pit. I would and bury myself to the bottom and thus be isolated from that horrible place and noise for a couple of minutes until he dug me out of the pit.
The Dems should buy ‘em out... CEC... The anti Kek... Already has the proper mascot and registered members have acceptable taste and behavior.
That place is a germ factory under the best of conditions.
I just looked at the Chuck E Cheese website and they are pushing their carry-out and delivery service via grub hub and others.
Who in their cotton pickin brain thinks of ordering Chuck E Cheese when they think of pizza?
‘Black pizza matters’...
I liked the animatronics. I think, however, they’ve gotten rid of all of them, replaced them with dudes in costumes.
Regardless of what any of us think about the esthetics of the place, its demise due to the malicious, moronic shutdowns matters a great deal.
Don’t think that only the “cheesey” (sorry about that) places are going under. This is just the tip of the iceberg coming at us.
Thank you China.
I went to a brawl and a kids party broke out.
You mean a restaurant does not have the freedom to give its customers what it wants, what the customers want? Why do they go there? Good bad or indifferent, the issue is what the state has done to unconstitutionally destroy freedom and destroy property without due process. Every restaurant that was forced to close has a case against these unconstitutional fiats.
Ha, the virus isn’t the only thing that caused trouble for ol’ Chuck. Certain groups turned CEC restaurants into war zones.
Yeah, I’ve never been to one, but I’ve spoken with a few parents who have. They say it’s like Lord Of The Flies at a pizza party. The parents (mainly mothers) come home frazzled, and ready for a stiff belt. *chuckle* And almost to a person, they say the pizza sucks - somewhere between a Totino’s and a Tombstone. (Well, Tombstone is edible in a pinch. DiGiorno is better, especially if you doctor it up a little.)
Regardless of the relentless CeC negativity here; this is just another intended economic casualty to eliminate Orange Man Bad no matter the cost.
The Dims/Marxists WILL burn this country down before allowing America as founded to continue to exist.
Sad for the folks about to lose their jobs. We are still in the early stages of the economic fallout from the pandemic. There will be a lot more of this to come. And the service industry is going to take a brutal hit.
In the 80s when I was little my mom wouldnt let me go to Chuck E Cheeses. She said it was dirty.
Chuck E. Cheese! That’s the one place you can go to ensure your immune system can manage Covid!
This is just the tip of the iceberg coming at us.

You ain’t wrong brother.
(or sister, as the case may be)
Last year, a teenage boy horrified me with pictures from Instagram and Twitter from customers photographing their Chuck E CHeese pizzas to prove that the staff had assembled pizzas out of uneaten slices left on tables. The slices didn’t match. Half a pepperoni slice on one slice, no matching half of pepperoni on the neighboring slice. Some slices cut at odd angles, shoved into formation which distorted the round shape. The horror is real.
For those who believe Covid-19 is our generations bubonic plague, I don’t see people wanting to take the family there. Those who think Covid is overblown, STILL don’t want to eat recycled pizza.
I’ve had their pizza and this is no big loss.
