More than a dozen people have been fatally shot, including a teenager at her college graduation party and a clothing designer who was washing his car.
It has been nearly a quarter century since New York City experienced as much gun violence in the month of June as it has seen this year.
The city logged 125 shootings in the first three weeks of the month, more than double the number recorded over the same period last year, police data show. Gunmen opened fire during house parties, barbecues and dice games, and carried out coldly calculated street executions.
More than a dozen people have been fatally shot, including a teenager at her college graduation party and a clothing designer who was washing his car. You have to go back to 1996 to have a worse start of June, Michael LiPetri, the chief of crime control strategies, said in an interview on Monday.
The rising toll of gun violence has become part of a contentious debate over the future of policing in the wake of mass protests against police brutality. Police unions and their supporters have issued shrill warnings that the city was slipping into a high-crime era reminiscent of the early 1990s.

Gotta love those gun control laws in Democrat run cities.
Mayor Dinkins must be proud...
“... fatally shot, including a teenager at her college graduation party ”
NYS AG moved quickly to investigate what Cuomo called “an illegal graduation party”
Let me guess, De Blasio and Cuomo will blame the NRA over this, as opposed to their vaunted Sullivan Law.
1921: angry white Democrats burn down a successful black community.
2020: angry white Democrats help to burn down black communities.
Help to ... communities ... 99 years of progress
If you want more of something, encourage it.
If you want less of something, discourage it.
Defund/disembowel NYPD? Is that what aunt teefuh is demanding now? Does DUHblazio concur?
There itThere it is thats stupid Democrat phrase gun violence again
Gun violence gun violence gun violence
Have they ever use the term knife violence or baseball bat violence or metal pole violence?
No of course not
Why? Because of the second amendment what does that say?
The right of the American citizen to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed
Wilhelm in NYC-
Let the criminals out of prison.
Doesn’t put current criminals in prison.
Allows public vandalism, looting and assault.
Dis-empowers legal authority.
Disbands the rule of law.
And they are are shocked to have an escalation in more crime?
Get you while you can and Flush the rest.
Yep. YAWN. I’m beyond caring about people too stupid to stop voting demoncrat.
There is no policing in my neighborhood.
There is no crime in my neighborhood.
Something seems different than NYC.
I wonder what?
To NYC residents:. There’s a dot here, and a dot over there. Now pick up your mental pencils and see if you can connect them.
Is it a spike or is it the normal baseline once the artificial controls are removed?
When it gets to Wall Street you’ll see how long this crap lasts.
That’s what happens when the government eliminates the Mafia from a big city. Easy to fix though...just tighten the gun laws from you can’t have one to you really, really can’t have one, and then make murder illegal.
This is what the people of NYC clearly chose and prefer to happen. In fact, it seems to be the preference of several big Democrat cities in the U.S. Giuliani saved several hundred black lives by bringing the crime rate much lower through much stronger policing. These blacks lives, naturally, do not matter at all to the left.
Hence, the Demonrats had nothing to use to demagogue the issue. Hard to argue for gun bans when violent crime was down 50%.
So, they had to MANUFACTURE crime.
Hence, Antifa and the "George Floyd" riots.
Yes, their leaders actually would have people murdered to gain power. The Clintons did it for decades.
Blacks with guns ok whites with guns get arrested and jailed
