“GO means Grade Officer”
Wow, I should have read your comment closer. GO means General Officer, out of 100 new lieutenants/ensigns, only one will make GO.
Unfortunately the GO ranks become too political.

GO means General Officer
Must not be a Navy thing.

GO means General OfficerHad to look.
https://www.defense.gov/Resources/Insignia/
Army, Air Force and Marine Corps officers are called company grade officers in the paygrades of O-1 to O-3, field grade officers in paygrades O-4 to O-6 and general officers in paygrades O-7 and higher.
The equivalent officer groupings in the Navy are called junior grade, mid-grade and flag. Wasn't a ground pounder or fly boy myself.
You mentioned O-5's (LTC).
... LTCs that are capable of GO operations...Misread what you said and went with it.
That's a two rank jump from LTC to Brigadier General. They must have been some amazing people.

Unfortunately the GO ranks become too political. Will you support me in waging a useless and aimless global war that will kill a lot of innocent people?

Generals are referred to as “Flag Officers”.
