Moore lost on his own. Trump couldn’t put him over the top, but Moore is a man who, in 2012, beat his opponent for Chief Justice of Alabama by 3.76%. Mitt Romney, the guy at the top of the ticket in 2012, beat Obama by 22% in AL. In other words, Romney the Yankee Mormon heretic beat Moore by 18% in the vote count while they were on the same ballot. Moore was just a marginal candidate popular only among hard core GOP loyalists. You might call them yellow dog Republicans.

You forgot to mention that Moore had to beat the sitting GOP Chief Justice in a GOP primary in 2012.

Moore also faced a national Democratic Party campaign against him in the 2012 general election.

The Democrats spent zero money against Romney in Alabama in 2012.
