A man who faces several battery charges stemming from a protest in Albuquerque earlier this month has been released on his own recognizance.
Bernalillo County District Court Judge Charles Brown released Steven Ray Baca, 31, Monday morning. Brown said he believed Baca posed a danger to the community, but also said that there were conditions of release that could keep the community safe. Baca is required to report to Pretrial Services, cannot possess firearms and cannot go to any protests while the charges are pending.
Baca is charged with one count of aggravated battery, a felony, two counts of misdemeanor battery and one misdemeanor count of unlawful carrying of a deadly weapon for incidents that happened at a protest to remove a statue of Juan de Oñate outside the Albuquerque Museum on June 15.
Baca was originally charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon for shooting 39-year-old Scott Williams, but the charge was dropped because District Attorney Raúl Torrez had concerns with how the Albuquerque Police Department handled the investigation.
Torrez said Baca could still be charged in the shooting.

In your dreams Torrez. He is one of the Soros-backed DAs elected in 2018. Videos show Baca was attacked twice by the man with the skateboard, chased down the street after the first attack with those pursuing shouting "We're going to f***g kill you," caught and pulled to the ground and he shot the skateboard attacker as he was about to strike Baca again.
The aggravated battery was when he pushed one of the women protesters to the ground (leading to the first attack on him), and the other two misdemeanor charges were pushing protesters earlier who were trying to tear down the statue.
This Back is gonna walk. He did nothing but retreat as he was being assaulted verbally threatened with death. They went assaulting and howling after him.
Most any decent jury trial would acquit in about 5 minutes.
Peers aint what they used to be.
RTFA!
No way they’ll let him walk. They have to send a message.

Was he last seen crossing the border shortly after his release?
Now that the antifa mob knows he can’t possess firearms, they may very well find where he lives and attack him at home. They are a lawless mob and always relentless.
And the video of him pulling that protesters shows she elbowed him in the face first.
So unless they are going to argue that a man can’t hit a woman, that charge won’t stick.
Can’t say about the earlier ones, because I haven’t seen a video of them, but my guess people seeing the video of how he was being pushed around will believe that the others similarly pushed him around.
Send a message? What an ankle bracelet and 1 year probation vs. being shot four times for assaulting someone?
Whatever message the court sends will pale in comparison to the message Baca already sent.
It only takes one to acquit.
Baca walks while Antifa thugs question continuing their commitment to the cause. Their depth of commitment is based on a comic-book sense of realism spun from the fairy tale deceptions of their indoctrination. Since their indoctrination is completely false they revolt. Their angst is worthless vs. bullets.
Jury nullification. We only need ONE person to acquit. Say whatever you have to in order to get on a jury. Then in the jury room, simply refuse to convict in these political trials.
Make sure to argue endlessly, otherwise they will accuse you of failure to deliberate and they will remove you.
Spread this from coast to coast.
Not to mention the assailant appeared to brandish a knife.
Ping
Not too likely. Most people in NM with the Baca surname can trace their family roots in NM back long before there was a United States or a Mexico. All of their family support, and there is a lot, is right there.
He even deployed pepper spray before resorting to his firearm, and they kept coming.
And the videos show the the militia group calling themselves the New Mexico Civil Guard surrounded Baca after the shooting to protect him as some of mob were ready to attack again. Baca sat on the ground in apparent shock with the gun some feet away from him. If not for the the militia group, some in the mob would have attacked and maybe grabbed the gun and used it on him. It took the police and riot squad, formed up behind the ABQ museum, several minutes to reach both the shooter and the victim, and more time to understand what had happened.
I thought i saw a knife or shiv in the hand of the punk who attacked him why wasn’t the punk arrested for assault?
Appeared is a good word to use as one hand held eye glasses which he dropped after being shot but what was in the other hand is uncertain. His lawyer said he didn't have a knife.
I doubt that Mr. Baca will have to fight this on his own, or go unprotected. Hundreds, if not thousands, will rally to his cause, with $$$ and protection, for his cause is their cause, our cause. It was a righteous shoot! G-D BLESS him for going in harms way for all of us, and the right!
