[MT] Group Claims Enough Signatures For Recreational Marijuana Vote
Montana Public Radio ^ | June 19, 2020 | EDWARD O'BRIEN

A group seeking to legalize recreational marijuana in Montana says it has gathered enough signatures to put the question to voters in November's election.

The ballot committee, New Approach Montana, says it has turned in 52,000 signatures in support of a ballot initiative to allow retail marijuana sales at a 20% tax rate.

Organizers also turned in more than 80,000 signatures for an accompanying constitutional initiative that would allow the legal age buying age of marijuana to be set at 21.

The committed collected signatures from all 100 state House districts, spokesman Pepper Petersen said, all while taking precautions to prevent disease transmission during the novel coronavirus pandemic.

“We think it represents what’s going to happen in November, “ he said. “There’s going to be an overwhelming support for this in every corner of the state. There’s not a legislative district that’s not represented in the signatures. We feel like the support out there is deep and wide, and it’s really exciting.”

Election officials must verify signatures before the measures are approved for the ballot. According to the Associated Press, campaign finance reports show New Approach Montana spent more than $1 million collecting signatures.

Yeah, because there’s not enough drug-addled potheads out there looting stores, burning police cars, stabbing cops in the neck and generally creating chaos and mayhem out there.

Including in states where pot is still illegal - highlighting illegality's failure to do much beyond enriching the criminals who sell it.

Should we ban all contributors to chaos and mayhem - including the drug alcohol?

Boise is already ruined via diversity.

Boise is 200 miles from Montana, and marijuana is illegal in Idaho. Other than that, great post.

Hey everybody, let’s get f’d up and let the commies take over.

Marijuana's illegality has made no demonstrable difference in how often people get f’d up - but has enriched the violent criminals who sell it by giving them a monopoly on the market.

Meaning it’s coming east from Seattle and will be continuing east.

Enjoy being a c***.

It would be fun to watch what happens to all those potheads once the commies do take over and cut off their supply. Talk about harshing their mellow. Potheads go absolutely CRAZY after a couple of days on not getting high.

Even crazier than when they ARE high.

I should know. I used to be one.

Thanks for the dose of sanity.

ecstasy, molly...but i’m sure those will become legal somewhere down the line :)

I'm not. This slope does not appear to be slippery - marijuana has been illegal since the '30s despite the legality of the mind-altering drug alcohol during that entire period. (Which is not to say that after allowing due time to learn the lessons of marijuana legalization, we shouldn't consider further legalizations.)

Isn't it amazing how devoted people are to getting effed up that they deny what's going on right before their eyes?

Actually arguing that the legalization of marijuana has NOTHING to do with all the insanity going on out there.

Wow.

Idaho takes a VERY dim view of dope being transported from Washington to points east. There are a lot of arrests of mules on I-90 around Coeur d’Alene.

There was no marijuana in Idaho before Washington legalized it?

Enjoy being a c***.

Another Reefer Madness loon eagerly dives headfirst into the rhetorical gutter.

I call BS! I’ve been smoking since I served in Vietnam (68-69) and have yet to witness violence or crazy users. Legalize it, tax it and watch the tax revenues rocket up.

Have any good argument that it does ... "good" excluding the ancient logical fallacy of post hoc ergo propter hoc ("after this therefore because of this")?
