John Bolton’s book looks like a fairy-tale for Trump haters
American Thinker ^ | 06/18/2020 | Andrea Widburg

The Trump administration has sued to stop John Bolton’s purported “tell-all” from being released next week on the ground that it is filled with classified information that affects national security. That suit hasn’t stopped Bolton’s publisher from leaking the supposed “bombshells” in the book.

Those bombshells will excite Trump haters, but those who support Trump will immediately recognize them as lies, deliberate misinterpretations, and resentment. Expect the activist Democrat media to sing the book’s praises, but that won’t change the outcome of the November election.

The book’s biggest alleged bombshell, which Bolton writes about in the Wall Street Journal (paywall), is his claim that, in June 2019 at the Osaka G20, Trump begged Chinese President Xi Jinping to help him get reelected. According to Bolton, Xi said that America’s relationship with China was important and that it was wrong for some in America to want a Cold War. Trump countered that Democrats were hostile to China and then, says Bolton, the begging started:

Trump then, stunningly, turned the conversation to the coming U.S. presidential election, alluding to China’s economic capability and pleading with Xi to ensure he’d win. He stressed the importance of farmers and increased Chinese purchases of soybeans and wheat in the electoral outcome.

The implication is that, having used Putin to win in 2016 (something that the Mueller Report reluctantly conceded was false), Trump is now using Xi to win in 2020. This contention is ludicrous.

Throughout his presidency, Trump has dedicated himself to ending thirty years of bad trade deals with China, all of which profoundly damaged American workers. There’s no way he would beg Xi for election help or that Xi would grant it.

Bolton’s publisher is owned by ViacomCBS.

Nuff said.

So when did John get woke? Another deep-stater who has destroyed his rep to try to get Trump.

The bodies on the scrap-pile of deep-state trash are really piling up.

I find the whole Bolton book affair to be very strange.

I think the book is full of lies and I think it is surprising that Bolton would lie.

I recognize that Bolton is an odd duck. But he’s not Adam Schiff. A big effort to torpedo President Trump so that the Democrats can slip back into power is certainly out of character for Bolton.

Any chance they’ll use the material as fact? LOL! As if we need to ask. And you know the lib lemmings will gobble it up like lemming kibble. They used to hate bolton with a passion. Guess he’ll be invited to all the celebrity balls now.

He strikes me as an arrogant narcissist who cannot imagine ever being wrong about anything.

I’m sure that was his target audience. The sad fact is that in the business world when Trump offended or humiliated someone then there wasn’t a lot they could do. Now that he’s President then those people go out and write a book.

It’s well known and well documented that China’s “friends” in the U.S. government are on the left. Even if Trump were to stoop to such a request, I don’t think China would be lining up to help him.

I agree with you. There’s way more to this story than is being told.

My version is that Bolton and Trump are in it together.

But I could be wrong. It’s been known to happen.

Like all the other hate on Trump it’s going to be about as effective as a gnat on a bulldozer.

There is more here than meets the eye. For his entire career John Bolton espoused conservative values, demonstrated love and devotion to America, warned about the danger of the Left and fought them in every forum. Now there is little doubt that he also espouses policies that other conservatives oppose such as American involvement in the Mideast quagmire. Also when serving under Trump he probably did not click with Trump personally and was frustureated that his influence was limited and marginalized.
Yet Bolton understands politics. He knows full well that his “memoir” is designed to hurt Trump and enhance the likelihood of Biden and the hard Left taking control of the Federal government. He knows that would be a disaster for America and contrary to all the values and passions he previously held. So what happened? IMHO John Bolton has a dark secret in his past that the Left somehow now knows. This hit job memoir to help Biden is no accident. Bolton has been compromised and is behaving accordingly.

I think the media is betting that the book will not be published as scheduled, due to the lawsuit the DOJ has filed against publication. That way, any outrageous lies in the reporting about its contents don't get corrected until after the election, guaranteeing maximum damage.

There would be absolutely nothing wrong with Trump saying that. He was turning Chi’s complaint around and saying: If you want better relations, give me the deal I want.

Bolton acknowledges that Chi probably wasn’t talking about democrats, of course he meant Trump’s own team including Bolton. Trump brushed that off and pretended that Chi meant the opposition back home.

I’ve used a similar tactic in negotiating, telling my adversary that I needed a certain victory in order to be a “hero” to the rest of the team.

I learned a long time ago from a very wise negotiator, you always have to give “reasons” for the concessions on both sides. You can’t just say I want more, you always wrap your demands in explanations. Trump was just playing Chi, ignoring his complaint as if he didn’t know it was aimed at Trump himself.

Destroyed his rep? Bolton’s circle of GOPe friends/associates hate POTUS every bit as much as Schumer and Pelosi do. If anything his reputation will be burnished among them after writing this hit job book.

"He was turning Chi’s complaint..."

Who is Chi? Did you mean Xi or China?

He stressed the importance of farmers and increased Chinese purchases of soybeans and wheat in the electoral outcome.

I really don't understand the big deal, even if true. Doesn't a president often try to make deals and decisions that he thinks his constituents will like enough to vote for him for reelection? How is this worse than Obama saying he could be more flexible with Russia after he is reelected?

I think Bolton's motives are purely about Bolton "slipping back into power".
