The real damage Obama did to the Democratic Party was the loss of the Senate and his leaving federal judicial vacancies for his successor to fill. Because his successor was Trump and because after four years, Trump's party still controls the Senate, the Dems have been unable (despite their best efforts) to put a halt to the appointment of conservative judges; their influence will be felt for decades.
