Back in the early seventies when I was in the military, the black entitlement was very apparent.

Any comment or action perceived as a slight toward blacks would result in a captain's mast.

When I was in Vietnam (1970-71) there were rumors of actual firefights between blacks and whites. I never saw any such thing, or met anybody who did, but the rumors were rampant, and seemed believable at the time.
